This Weekend's Events (4th to 6th November)

Hi Everyone

I, your humble narrator, have just about enough time from other job as "Swearing Consultant" on the all-new all-singing Songs of Praise to tell you what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday, it's time for TRIBUTE NIGHT

As regular visitors will know, every three months Tribute Night features a different artist and a bunch of local musicians play a bunch of songs by the featured artist.

The people have spoken! In a rare, experimental flirtation with democracy and following an unwieldy process of nomination and voting that we probably didn’t all quite understand, the subject of the autumn edition of Tribute Night will be Radiohead.  Let’s talk about Radiohead, let’s talk about Thom and Ed, let’s talk about Jonny, Phil and Colin’s existential dread..

We'll be open at 8pm for a prompt 8.30 start, and as usual, there will be no charge on the door, but  we suggest you keep £5 or more aside in that tiny pocket-within-a-pocket in your jeans to donate when a friendly looking person thrusts a cash-hungry hat towards you during the interval.

On Saturday, we have KABARET KOLLECTIVE

For an alternative vintage-style night out, join the Reading Kabaret Kollective for a fun evening of eclectic variety, cabaret kleinkunst and a touch of confusion for good measure.

Featuring music comedy from LUNA MARIA (Beth ‘Gog’ Perkins and Becky Strudley), character comedy by ISOBEL BRODIE, plus a return of magic and contortion by the awesome TOM BALMONT!.

We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you £10 on the door

Finally on Sunday, it's time for our annual VINTAGE TEA DANCE!

Dress up in your best vintage gear and shake a leg on the dance floor, it's the bee's knees!

The Rising Sun's Vintage Tea Dance begins with a Charleston Dance Class with READING SWING JAM at 2pm - 3pm, followed by Lashings of homemade cakes and tea served to you on vintage crockery from 3pm - 5.30pm, with live music from the marvellous LAWRIE WRIGHT and THE SILVER HEELS

If you love baking and would like to bring us a cake on the day, let us know what you would like to bake and we will add it to our menu list.

Just £10 entry and all profits go towards the upkeep of The Rising Sun

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
