Hi Everyone

Things are a little quiet this time around.  I mean, let's face it.  We can't keep our usual red-hot pace all the time (we also consider it rather gallant and sporting to let our competitors catch up a tiny bit)

However, you don't go away completely empty-handed, because, on Friday evening, we bring you the Summer instalment of TRIBUTE NIGHT

Anyone who has been to a Rising Sun Tribute Night will already know the deal. Every three months we pay homage to a much-loved band or artist.  Everyone picks a song or two, practices them for a bit, then gets together again on Tribute Night to play them to a crowd - always with fascinating results. The next Tribute Night’s hero is announced at the end of the evening. It’s a simple but winning formula and is silly amounts of fun.

The Tribute Night train continues to rumble through the expansive landscape of popular music, its journey now approaching thirteen years. For the 2019 summer edition, we will be stopping at a destination known for its soul, spirit, funk, groove, socio-political comment and innervision.

And, if that doesn't give the game away... it's no more and no less than STEVIE WONDER

In a rare break with recent tradition, the powers that be at Tribute Night HQ have chosen an artist who is yet to depart this mortal coil (at the time of writing anyway).

Stevie is one of those artists who has such incredible vision that it is beyond mere mortals to comprehend how such beautifully detailed, complex, groovy, ambitious, emotionally charged, vibrant, colourful, rich tapestries of music can be conceived by the mind of one person, a person who often writes, arranges, produces and plays everything on the records himself.  All the more astonishing when you remember that he has been blind virtually since birth.  It’s going to be hotter than July.

We’ll be open at 8pm for a prompt 8.30 start.  And as usual, there’s no charge on the door, but we suggest you keep £5 or more aside for when the friendly people with hats circulate the room, the bar, the hallway, the porch, the little bit of pavement out the front, and the smoking pen out the back during the interval

All donations go to the Rising Sun.

If you would like to join the mailing list and stay up to date with Tribute Night events, please send an email to TributeNight@hotmail.co.uk.

Please also visit the Rising Sun's YouTube channel to see footage of previous Tribute Nights at.https://www.youtube.com/c/RisingSunArtsCentreTV

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
