Hi Everyone

A little thank you to everyone and anyone who crossed our threshold last weekend, it was nice to see a myriad of familiar and not-so-familiar faces.  Especially those of you who helped us to celebrate our birthday.  It was a lovely event and it was great to see so many of you

And if that wasn't enough, we have yet another packed weekend at the Rising Sun and it looks just so...

On Friday, it's time for STAND UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk

This month's main feature is WEST SIDE STORY (Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise, 1961)

Classic take on Romeo and Juliet, the tale of Maria and Tony, star crossed lovers from warring gangs:  the Sharks and the Jets.  Full of memorable songs (music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics from Stephen Sondheim) and amazing set-piece dance routines,  "The kind of movie they just don't make anymore".

This showing coincides with the Reading Year of Culture "Dance" theme for November

It'll cost you a paltry £5 on the door or £10 for a year's membership.  Short Films start at 7.30. The Wind Will Carry Us starts showing at 8.00 pm.

On Saturday, we have another helping of BANDORAMA

The third saturday of the month?  The third saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town and here's how it looks this time round

The DeRELLAS
They were great last time they played at the Queens Arms at the end of May. Very happy that they wanted to come back from that London via Brighton. Main stayers of the London glam-punk scene. For fans of the Ramones/Supersuckers/The Damned/New Bomb Turks/Clorox Girls/MikaBomb/The Priscallas/The Cramps/Backyard Babies....you get the picture. They are a must see live experience. Do.Not.Miss

RAGE DC
Living local legends (so it says here)

THE GO GO CULT
Seriously tasty billynrollnsurf. The real deal. John Peel would have got the Go Go Cult and so should you.

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £5 on the door to get in (£4 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

On Sunday, we have a one-off instalment of VEGGIE DINING

Come and dine in style and have a jolly nice time, at the one-off return of the communal eating experience that is Veggie Dining!  As a tradition that has a long history at the Rising Sun and indeed in the Reading activist scene over the years, Veggie Dining is brought to you by a team of volunteers including some of the original Rising Sun crowd!  It's simple and lovely - savour three delightful veggie courses and enjoy live entertainment while you dine.

Live entertainment is brought to you by some of our original performers, Kate Fletcher and Jilly Rose, bringing more of the authentic flavour to the mix.

We're open from 2pm, however, space is limited, so please email Danuta at info@risingsun-artscentre.co.uk, to check availabilty

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
