This Weekend's Events (8th to 10th June)

Hi Everyone

I recently saw on a nature program that the mosquito is the most dangerous creature in the world.  Well, I'd like to see somebody take out a crocodile or a lion with a rolled up copy of FourFourTwo..

Ironically, as I type this there does happen to be a mosquito flying around the room right now, I'll let him think he's safe for a moment while I let you know what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday we bring you THE BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

The Big Untidy Night Out specialises in bringing new unusual talent into the Rising Sun.  Singers, songwriters, poets, punk outfits, ambient experimentalists, sensational cellists and demonic banjo-players, the possibilities are endless.

This time around, the Big Untidy would like to welcome you to a night with a line-up that's looking really fabulous in a mellow acoustic and artistic sense.

Featuring the return of HEAD OF STEAM, the modern day troubadour, the fantastic Mr GRANT SHARKEY, there's also the emotional songsmith MY NORTHERN SKY. And, now added to the bill THE DREADING POETS from down the road at RISC

We're open at 7.30pm and it'll only cost you a paltry £5 on the door

Then, Saturday morning brings another BOOKFACE BOOKCLUB

An informal artists book group. Ideal for sharing your latest book finds and creations, sometimes includes art and craft activities for book making

We're open from 10am-12noon and it's only £4

Saturday daytime sees the return of the YELLOW TEAPOT CAFE

The Yellow Teapot Cafe might do everything a cafe might do. You can buy tea, coffee and soft drinks, biscuit and cake. But we are an event, a haven for those who like to relax, look at books, be creative and drink tea.

We're open from 1pm to 3pm and it'll coat you nothing to come in!

On Saturday evening, we bring you an extra bonus episode of CLUB VELOCITY PRESENTS

Yes folks!  It's an extra-special helping of one of the best band nights in town.

SEAN McGOWAN
Sean played here in February as part of Independent Venue Week.  He got what the Rising Sun was about straight away.  So much so, that he asked to come back!

Raised on a diet of The Clash, The Jam, Specials, Billy Bragg and other such politically-charged, punk-ignited British pop, Southampton-born troubadour Seán McGowan had been playing up and down the UK for two years, and DIY released two EPs (given away / sold on a “pay what you want” basis at shows), before catching the ears of the music industry at 2013’s Great Escape festival.

An appearances on Billy Bragg’s Left Field stage at Glastonbury that year saw Seán exposed to his biggest audience yet, and touring / playing shows with artists the likes of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, The Rifles, Beans On Toast and Frank Turner.  This is the last night of the tour....so you know what to do!

ANNA'S ANCHOR
All the way from Limerick, Ireland.  If you're looking for songs with genuine character and an intriguing story then look no further than Anna's Anchor.  Created after a summer of playing dive bars in Montana,Anna's Anchor is the indie Alt/Rock project of Limerick musician Marty Ryan (Going 90). Taking strong influences from bands such as Interpol, Brand New and Smashing Pumpkins.

MARK TAYLOR
From The Pin Ups in a rareish solo outing.  As seen (solo) only before in France and Thailand.  The best front man of a generation.  The Pin Ups nearly brought down the government...sort of.  (By the way, The Pin Ups were signed to Deceptive Records (Elastica/Snuff...) by Steve Lamacq.  And also the best band to come out of Tilehurst.... ever.)

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £9.50 on the door to get in or £7.50 in advance from www.wegottickets.com

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
