This Weekend's Events (17th to 19th June)

The sun is out, the sky is blue (well, almost...).  There's even some clouds for all those people who aren't that keen on sunny weather and I've even heard rumours of a man seen walking out of Workhouse Coffee who doesn't have a beard...

And with so much going on, and the town being all abuzz with something that makes the townspeople make some sort of collective buzzing noise

First of all, Friday, and we bring you STAND UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.

Our main feature this month is LA GRANDE BOUFFE (Marco Ferreri,1973)

Four friends hold up in a chateau and eat themselves to death. On one level a witty and well acted comedy of overindulgence and excess on another an allegory of decline (Aficianados of black Gallic humor willl find this film a feast).

It'll cost you a paltry £4 on the door.  Short Films start at 7.30. La Grande Bouffe starts showing at 8.00 pm.

On Saturday, we have BANDORAMA

The third saturday of the month?  The third saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.

BEN MARWOOD
Club Velocity legend.  All round brilliant song writer.  If you live in Reading-you should really know Ben by now.If you have not-catch up-granddad. He has released two proper albums for Xtra Mile Recordings, Which are both essential and great..He is God.

LITTLE RED
A Folk trio influenced by artists such as Tom McRae, Nick Cave, Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan, Little Red perform songs inspired by traditional Folk and Americana. Tales of visceral knife crime and woodland hauntings are delivered with driving melodies in three-part harmony.

"A band well worth following" - Nightshift Magazine

NICK PARKER
Singer songwriter from Glastonbury-first time in Reading.  Highly recommended by none other than Mr Marwood himself

We're open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £9 on the door to get in (£6 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Hi Everyone

I do hope you're enjoying this somewhat unseasonal weather and not sweltering too much.  Excuse me a moment, I just need a cold shower (again)
