Altered Books Workshop

Price:
Booking required, suggested donation £5

Learn about altered books, and start one of your own at this mixed media workshop. All materials, including old books to use, are provided.

An altered book is an artwork created by changing any existing printed book in some way. Frequently collaborative and often therapeutic to make, altered books can be made using almost any media to change your starting book.

In this workshop, begin to create your own altered book with materials provided by your hosts. Feel free to bring your own existing book if preferred. You can also bring along any materials you like to add to your book; your own photographs, paper collage, pens, and drawing materials. We will explore collaging, drawing, painting, and paper folding techniques to alter your book pages.

Your hosts are Neile Wright (organiser of Bookface book club and arts fair) and Immy Smith (aka Lycomorpha, Moths in a Human Suit.) Immy will talk about how altered books have been used in art and collaboration, share some of their own altered books, and talk about collage/traditional media alteration. Neile will share more about paper folding and punching as techniques to alter book pages, and share info on the upcoming Bookface art fair.

Old books, paper collage materials, glue, scissors, washi tape and pens/pencils will be available for you to use. This workshop is suitable for people aged 16 and over.

This workshop is 'pay what you want' - we ask you to contribute to our costs for materials, travel, and room hire at the Rising Sun Arts Centre. Suggested donation: £5
