This Weekend's Events (7th to 9th November)

Hi Everyone

A little thank you to everyone and anyone who crossed our threshold last weekend, it
was nice to see a myriad of familiar and not-so-familiar faces at one of the busiest
couple of days we've seen for a little while.

Anyhow, after last week's jam-packed avalanche of happenings, we have a single event
for your delectation this weekend. It's on Friday, and it just happens to be TRIBUTE
NIGHT!

As regular visitors will know, every three months Tribute Night features a different artist
and a bunch of local musicians play a bunch of songs from the featured artist's back catalogue.

This time around Tribute Night is devoted to the post modern eclecticism of BECK
Some folks may see him as a musical genius, others see him as a genre-hopping smart
alec.  However, through his travels from soul prankster to melancholic troubador (and all
stops in between), Mrs Hansen's little Beckney from Sebastapol Terrace has amassed a
wide and varied back catalogue that makes him a slightly left-field yet also ideal choice
for Tribute Night subject/target/scapegoat.

Just when Prince seemed to misplace his mojo in the mid-’90s, another genre-hopping,
boundary-defying, multi-instrumentalist musical magpie with a single-word moniker
appeared to be discovering his. Like Prince, Beck’s early work was very much grounded
in the music of his peers, in Beck’s case the anti-folk movement and the noise rock of
Sonic Youth. Similarly, he developed quickly into an artist of astonishing breadth, vision
and ambition, confounding listeners with each album and rarely sitting still. Beck has
proved himself time and again with music that is artistically challenging, culturally
relevant and commercially appealing.

We'll be open at 8pm for a prompt 8.30 start, and as usual, there will be no charge on
the door, but  we suggest you keep £5 or more aside in that tiny pocket-within-a-pocket
in your jeans to donate when a friendly looking person thrusts a cash-hungry hat
towards you during the interval.

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30
Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST
(If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall
magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
