This Weekend's Events (5th to 7th May)

Hi Everyone

Yet again, circumstances have conspired to get in the way of things for I, your humble narrator at this present moment.  And once more,  you are either spared/deprived another regular pre-amble from myself (depending on your particular point of view) and we can go head first into everything Rising Sun related this weekend

On Friday, we have the Spring edition of TRIBUTE NIGHT

Anyone who has been to a Rising Sun Tribute Night will already know the deal. Every three months we pay homage to a much-loved band or artist.  Everyone picks a song or two, practices them for a bit, then gets together again on Tribute Night to play them to a crowd - always with fascinating results. The next Tribute Night’s hero is announced at the end of the evening. It’s a simple but winning formula and is silly amounts of fun.

A night of heads-down, no-nonsense, hard boogie is what we’re proposing for the 2017 spring edition of Tribute Night in the shape of STATUS QUO

Formed in the mid-1960s from members of bands The Spectres and The Highlifes, the ‘Quo’ had early success with the psychedelic pop of Pictures Of Matchstick Men, but soon jettisoned that sound for hard rock boogie, becoming one of the UK’s most enduring bands by sticking to a winning formula for six decades. Sadly, co-frontman Rick Parfitt was one of the many high profile musical heroes to be claimed by 2016’s scythe-happy culture cull. But we were going to do a Quo night eventually anyway...

We’ll be open at 8pm and as usual, there’s no charge on the door, but  we suggest you keep £5 or more aside for when the friendly people with hats circulate the room, the bar, the hallway, the porch, the little bit of pavement out the front, and the smoking pen out the back.  

Saturday lunchtime sees the return of CLASSICAL FOR CHARITY

Classical For Charity is a series of classical and jazz concerts at The Rising Sun Arts Centre, performed by local musicians and hosted by local pianist and piano teacher Maija Varvatsis. 

Come and support us by enjoying top-quality, rarely heard music in a great, relaxed atmosphere without having to pay enormous ticket prices! 

Maijia returns with a programme of Johann Sebastian Bach's music - primarily some of his famous Preludes and Fugues from the Das Wohltemperierte Klavier collection.

The chosen charity for this weekend’s concert is Fibromyalgia Action UK - http://www.fmauk.org/

On Saturday evening, THE SCARLET VIXENS present HEROES AND VILLAINS

The Scarlet Vixens are back at their original home, the Rising Sun Arts Centre, with a show not to be missed! This time we're bringing you a night of heroes and villains! Check out this line up!
