Hi Everyone

I've been meaning to mention this for a while, but on a recent trip to Thailand I was most impressed by the high standards of Occupational Health and Safety in the workplace.  Even the monks wear high visibility orange robes and all they do is hang around a temple all day...  Well done!!

Anyway, it's that time of the week again, and that means it's time to tell you about everything Rising Sun related this weekend

On Friday we bring you yet another TRIBUTE NIGHT

Anyone who has been to a Rising Sun Tribute Night will already know the deal. Every three months we pay homage to a much-loved band or artist.  Everyone picks a song or two, practices them for a bit, then gets together again on Tribute Night to play them to a crowd - always with fascinating results. The next Tribute Night’s hero is announced at the end of the evening. It’s a simple but winning formula and is silly amounts of fun.

Ten years ago this weekend, the first in a “series of nights where local acts come together and sing the songs of another act we really need to get a shorter name for these” was hosted by esteemed performance poet, celebrated author and local legend A.F. Harrold.

Since then we have travelled far and wide across the wonderful, eclectic world of popular music, paying tribute to many great artists along the way.

To celebrate, we are having a very special Tribute Night tomorrow night, Friday 5 August, casting a nostalgic eye over the last ten years and revisiting many of the artists and themes we have enjoyed at previous Tribute Nights.  There will be some reprises of songs performed by the same people who did them on the original nights, and songs performed by people who missed the original nights.  There will even be some special guests invited back especially for this night.  It will be a bumper birthday bonanza befitting the big occasion!

We'll be open at 8pm for an 8.30pm start and as usual, there will be no charge on the door, but  we suggest you keep £5 or more aside for when the friendly people with hats circulate the room, the bar, the hallway, the porch, the little bit of pavement out the front, and the smoking pen out the back.

On Saturday, we bring you the August instalment of CLUB VELOCITY

A week or two earlier this month due to something called Reading festival, and it looks like this

TALMA
Very new band from Reading/Newbury.This will be their debut Reading gig.Wonderful pop music, that the masses should love.Sooner, rather than later.Real deal.No filler. Not pretending

PUMA THURMAN
Featuring the local living legend Alex Marlow (ex R for Reptile)  All round good egg and works in John Lewis.  Delightful, sexy lofi indie pop for the POP! kids.

The man down the chip shop said this could be their debut gig.  (Mind you, he still says he's Elvis)

KHAMSINA
"Jazzcore for punks.  Exciting times" so it says here...

We're open at 8pm.and it'll cost you £5 on the door or £4 in advance from www.wegottickets.co.uk

That's everything for another weekend, and also for this month, as we're taking next weekend off.  Just remains to remind you that you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST  (If you put us in your Google or Sat Nav, we shall magically appear)
