Hi Everyone
Do you know, as September makes its annual appearance, the days are starting to draw in, the rain, sleet and drizzle gets slightly colder and on that new-fangled wireless with pictures there already one or two rogue advertisemnets for something called Christmas.
In other news, we have another busy(ish) weekend here at the Rising Sun
Saturday lunchtime sees another instalment of CLASSICAL FOR CHARITY
Classical For Charity is a series of classical and jazz concerts at The Rising Sun Arts Centre, performed by local musicians and hosted by local pianist and piano teacher Maija Tuomi-Nikula.
Come and support us by enjoying top-quality, rarely heard music in a great, relaxed atmosphere without having to pay enormous ticket prices!
This time Classical for Charity brings you a GEEK SPECIAL
This edition of Classical For Charity will bring you some of the most well-known and some rather obscure pieces of music from the vast world of computer games! The programme will include piano versions of the more modern tracks from games such as Fallout 4 and Minecraft, and some pieces from decidedly traditional games such as Leisure Suit Larry, King's Quest and Tetris. All of the pieces will be as close to the original as possible with some classical elements added - in short, they will be my own versions and in some cases, classical variations of the main theme!
If you like computer game music, this is the place to be!
We're open at 12.30pm for a 1pm start Tickets cost £3 as usual, and of course, there are some lovely refreshments available at the bar.
Finally on Sunday, we bring you SUNDAY ASSEMBLY
Sunday Assembly Reading is a community group that meets on the last Sunday of each month at the Rising Sun to hear great talks, sing songs, eat cake and celebrate life… it’s a part atheist church, part foot-stomping show. Each event has a theme with stories, readings and a final address on that topic. No matter what the subject, the goal of The Sunday Assembly is to solace worries, provoke kindness and inject a bit more whizziness into the everyday. And the best part.... IT’S FREE.
(By the way, this is an additional helping this month to avoid clashing with last week's bank holiday)
We're open from 11am to 12pm, and everybody's welcome!
That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
Have a nice weekend!
