This Weekend's Events (29th to 31st January)

Hi Everyone

If the seasonal weather is getting you down, it's worth remembering that this weekend sees January skulk off for another year.  And with that, we can welcome rain that gets slightly warmer, skies that turn blue for a couple of seconds each day and slightly fewer holiday ads  (There'll probably also be a load of Easter Eggs on the shelves as well... some of them half-price...  some of them might possibly be left over from last year....)

Anyhow, before I forget, it's time to let you know what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend!

Friday sees the return of CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of beat combos for the delectation of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ. We are proud to announce that this month's Club Velocity is part of Independent Venue Week, a 7 day celebration of small music venues around the UK and a nod to the people that run them, week in, week out.  Now in its third year, Independent Venue Week is back in January 2016 with a week-long series of gigs all around the UK.  The 7 day long campaign which runs nationally but with a local grassroots focus with 120 now venues taking part, from Aberdeen to Exeter and Belfast to Norwich. So it's rather appropriate that the first Club Velocity of the year looks something like this:-

QUIET QUIET BAND
Seriously one hell of an awesome live band.
They eat most bands for breakfast.

BIG ZERO
Your fave new three piece POP band. For fans of Devo/The Cars/The Skids/Weezer.

MATT MALTESE
The teenage piano slayer is back.Hooray.

We're open at 8pm, and it'll cost you £5 on the door or £4.40 in advance from www.wegottickets.co.uk.  Judging by the number of people taking an interest this particular night is looking as if it'll be absolutely rammed.  You might want to get yourself down here as early as possible

As part of our involvement in Independent Venue Week, we bring you another CLUB VELOCITY on Saturday!

VIENNA DITTO
Girl/Boy duo-who deal in electro blues.Awesome.  Female-fronted electronic blues duo Vienna Ditto will be releasing their debut album on 8th June 2015 on Ubiquity Project Records with a new single 'A Happy Car is a Stolen Car' due out 1st June.

They have been given airplay on Radio One, BBC6 Music and XFM and received glowing reviews in Q Magazine, Artrocker and The Fly (RIP). They have also had their music used for several advertising campaigns, the most recent for Saks Fifth Avenue. Their music will also feature in Sacred Heart, a film by award-winning director Kosta Nikas, due out in 2015.

PINK DIAMOND REVUE
Very tasty band alert.Like the Shadows playing with Renegade Soundwave.

JULIET AND THE RAGING ROMEOS
Female fronted garage (bubblegum) pop that your mama used to bake

That's everything for another weekend, just to remind you that you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST  (If you put us in your Google or Sat Nav, we shall magically appear)

Finally on Sunday, we bring you SUNDAY ASSEMBLY

Sunday Assembly Reading is a community group that meets on the last Sunday of each month at the Rising Sun to hear great talks, sing songs, eat cake and celebrate life… it’s a part atheist church, part foot-stomping show.  Each event has a theme with stories, readings and a final address on that topic. No matter what the subject, the goal of The Sunday Assembly is to solace worries, provoke kindness and inject a bit more whizziness into the everyday.  And the best part.... IT’S FREE.

We're open from 11am to 12pm.  Everybody's welcome!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
