Hi Everyone

You know, I was planning a long pre-amble about this week's exciting cornucopia of all things Rising Sun related, but after some consideration/faffing about, I felt it might be better to let this weekend's events speak for themselves...

On Friday, we bring you CLUB VELOCITY

Not just any old Club Velocity this time round, but Club Velocity's 11th Birthday Party-Gig-Knees Up!

11 years that really have gone too fast.It has a been a bucket load of fun. Not only will there be an abundance of free cake and shizzle, but for this Birthday bashing we have the following for your delectation:-

QUIET QUIET BAND
Number five and are one of the greatest bands to ever come out of this Reading. Unmissable live, and a must listen on record.  They deal in forward thinking alt country folk and roll

AUGUST LIST
Firm Club Velocity faves. Two piece who deal in proper blues-punk-country roll.  They are recording their debut album this year.It will be a wonderful debut and a real statement of intent.

Not only does John Peel listen to them in heaven, but also a huge fan.

MATT MALTESE
Huge talent alert. We really rate young Matt.  He might be only 18, but he is an act that has to be taken seriously. He has the voice of a cherub and slays the piano

We'll be open from 8pm and it''l only cost you £5 to get in (or £4 in advance from )

On Saturday, we bring you  our ART MARKET

The Rising Sun Art Market provides local artists with the opportunity to show and sell their work and for visitors to see a wide range of local arts and meet and talk to local artists. Come and browse the work of local artists that includes paintings, drawings, illustrations, ceramics, textiles photography, soaps…and more. It's a great opportunity to see a wide range of locally-produced work, meet the artists and discover beautiful things. The café will be open with tea and homemade snacks.

Please contact: neilenwright@hotmail.co.uk for more info

We'll be open from 11am to 5pm and entry is absolutely free

On Saturday evening, we are pleased to bring you BOINK!

Pianist/composer John Law's new project, exploring electronic sounds and spontaneous group interaction between keyboards, guitar, pre-composed electronic music scores, underpinned by propulsive drum grooves. Expect jazz, rock, ambient, electronic sounds performed in front of live projections and interactive visuals, using artwork specially put together for this tour.

This concert is part of a UK tour supported by Jazz Services and the Arts Council of England.

We're open at  8:30pm and it'll cost you £10 on the door to get in

Finally on Sunday, we have CRASH TEST DRAMA

The Crash Test Drama group meet on the last Sunday of every month with great opportunities to create drama…

They can provide constructive feedback on your audition pieces, help you source new writing, or set up a workshop with other actors and a director.

If you've written a piece that you'd like to see acted out? We will throw some actors at you, perform it and provide feedback.

Cold readings, moved readings, targeted workshops and feedback sessions - all to help inspire your next writing project.

If you're looking for guidance on a specific area of acting or directing? We can arrange for an experienced actor or director to come along and work through it with you.

We're open from 6.30pm to 9pm.  Cost dependent on requirement but general attendance is £5. Contact: crashtestdramauk@hotmail.co.uk for more info or find them on Facebook.

That's everything for another weekend, just to remind you that you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST  (If you put us in your Google or Sat Nav, we shall magically appear)
