Hi Everyone

The Late Roy Castle would have us believe that all we need to become a record breaker is a little dedication.  What nonsense!  I need 53 double decker buses, an Aston Martin and a disused airfield.

And with that thwarted ambition out of the way, it’s time to let you know what’s happening at the Rising Sun this weekend.

On Friday, it’s time for CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of beat combos for the enjoyment of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ and it looks just so:-

BURNT TOMORROW

Your fave forward thinking folk punks and one of our fave local bands

HORSE ROCK

Fast becoming Rising Sun legends.  Last seen round these parts

supporting John Otway at Sub89. where they made a lot of friends.  Surf for real punks.  For fans of Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet or Man or Astro-man.

THE RUMPO KIDZ

A good old rabble of punks, doing your faves as only they can.TV Smith is a HUGE fan.Featuring ex members of Cuckoooland, Oizone and Shelly’s Children.

On Saturday, we bring you FIESTA LATINA

A fun and sociable dance night featuring a mix of Latin dances from tango to meringue, salsa to bachata and all the stops in between (La Rueda is a speciality). Very friendly evening in somewhere that could have been lifted straight out of Cuba. Come and enjoy some hot Latin rhythms.

We'll be open at 9pm and it'll cost you a paltry £6 on the door to get in

Finally on Sunday, RESIDE DANCE presents HOME

Reside Dance are a newly formed dance company aiming to bring individuals and communities together by developing connections to places and others through dance. With a special focus on promoting and celebrating cultural diversity, Reside Dance aims to become Reading's first touring dance company to bring its' residents side by side to celebrate their individual and collective cultures. The company regularly draws upon techniques and processes from dance theatre, social choreography and somatic practice (body-mind centring, yoga and tai chi) within their work. For more information and to keep updated with Reside Dance, please visit and 'like' here - http://www.facebook.com/ResideDance

This Sunday, a group of diverse dancers explore their cultural identities in relation to each other and the space. Does the space reveal heritages belonging to other cultural identities? Are the dancers able to connect and create a sense of belonging in the space? Over time, could the dancers make this space their home?

Home is a performance project that enables participants to establish their individual and collective cultural identities within found spaces in order to try and make that space their home. Participants are encouraged to acknowledge and find ways to overcome cultural difference during the creative process and performance in order to develop feelings of togetherness, comfort and a sense of belonging. For The Rising Sun Arts Centre, the Reading community will join Reside Dance in a professional performance of Home and share their explorations of their cultural identities and the space in the form of poetry and movement.

Home will involve workshops for participants of all ages (initially split into two groups – 11-15 and 16 and over). This work will see them join professional dancers in a performance that evening that will be free to attend.

Workshops from 2pm
Cost: 11-15 yr olds £3, 16 and over £5

Performance at 6pm
Cost: Free

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
