Hi Everyone

Like most people, everyone at the Rising Sun was shocked to hear of what happened in Manchester on Monday night.  While we know that these kind of events are still thankfully rare, it’s not much help to those people who’ve lost friends or loved ones this week.  Nobody should go out for the night and then never come home.

Our thoughts and sympathy go out to the victims and their families

It’s a busy weekend at the Rising Sun this time around, starting on Friday, when it’s time for CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of beat combos for the enjoyment of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ and it looks just so:-

THE AUGUST LIST
Firm Rising Sun faves and Celebrating the launch of their new album 'Ramshackle Tabernacle’.  They deal in mighty country blues, with a rocknroll edge.  Do not miss.

“It’s a rare West Country husband-and-wife duo that can pull off the knack of sounding simultaneously like a vintage Louisiana jug band and at the same time very much like themselves.” – Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music)

ED LOFSTEDT
Club Velocity legend.  Now back in Reading.  Plays folk. Channels post-rock. Dreams post-punk. Eats pop.

"One of the UK's best up and coming songwriters...a credit to his craft." - All Will Be Well Records

Ed channels electronica and post-rock through his folk songs, drawing in huge dynamic shifts, spellbinding stagecraft and bewitching lyrics.

JONATHAN AMPHLETT & THE HOME COUNTIES BAND
Jonathan has been part of many successful Reading bands, including Johnny Arrow & The Cheap Day Returns, Sleep Room and Kicking Television and has supported the likes of Mark Morriss of the Bluetones, critically acclaimed band Everything Everything and Guardian favourites, Tuff Love.

He is now taking the whole blame for everything that he does as he strikes out on his own.

No shrinking bedroom troubadour, Jonathan Amphlett rips off the best bits of Josh Ritter, Courtney Barnett, Matt Berninger and Jeff Tweedy; lyrics that would make Hemmingway fire his shotgun in appreciation combined with an electric English country swing.

We’ll be open at 8pm and it’ll cost you £6 on the door, or £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com or www.skiddle.com

On Saturday, we bring you FIESTA LATINA

A fun and sociable dance night featuring a mix of Latin dances from tango to meringue, salsa to bachata and all the stops in between (La Rueda is a speciality). Very friendly evening in somewhere that could have been lifted straight out of Cuba. Come and enjoy some hot Latin rhythms.

We'll be open at 9pm and it'll cost you a paltry £6 on the door to get in

Finally on Sunday, READ COLLEGE bring you a Brand New COMEDY PREMIERE!

Following on from their 2015 award for Best Young Performer at Reading Fringe Festival, and 2 highly successful years here at the Rising Sun, the UK’s leading Performing Arts Foundation College presents yet another brand new comedy show! 4 weeks, 10 actors, zero scripts… come and find out what happens next!

Five stars “They carried themselves with a degree of energy and professionalism I would expect from people with many more years experience… ” Get Reading
(Reviews from 2015 Platform Performance – ‘Seeing Iris’)

This event supports the Student Hardship Fund at Read Dance and Theatre College (registered charity no 1142899).

We're open at 7.30pm and there's no ticket price - just donate to the charity what you think the evening was worth when you leave!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!). and before we forget, best of luck to Reading FC on Monday!!!

COME ON YOU ROYALS!!

This Weekend's Events (17th to 19th May)

Hi Everyone

At the Rising Sun we do pride ourselves on being different from the rest of the herd.  So much so, that we really can't be done with the cringing cult of celebrity.
