Hi Everyone

There’s been a particular piece of piece of conversation that’s been had by everyone with everyone they met, everywhere they went, these past few weeks (except possibly Aberdeen…)

“Goodness.. isn’t it hot?”
“So hot”
“Unbearable”
“Really hot”
“Couldn’t sleep last night”
“Me neither”
“Too hot”
“Goodness,, isn’t it hot?”

(… and, I suppose you get the general idea… That reminds me, isn’t it hot?)

In our quest to make old things new, and new things familiar (even weather talk), we have a packed weekend for your delectation at the Rising Sun

On Friday, it's time for another CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of beat combos for the enjoyment of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ and it looks just so:-

BLIMP
Formed in Reading back in the early 90s.  They are back after 23 years of not playing live.  John Peel was a fan.

They deal in brutal punk, with an industrial feel.  For fans of Killing Joke/Ministry/Southern Death Cult

TYPICAL HUNKS
Brutal Nu Punk.  For fans of Big Black/Jesus Lizard/Slug

CODY NOON
Reading-based distortion-loving duo crafting quiet menace and soaring instrumental bedroom rock.  For fans of Slint/Mogwai/Slowdive

We’ll be open at 8pm and it’ll cost you £6 on the door, or £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com

Things take a rather different turn on Saturday and Sunday, as we happen to be one of many people who are playing host to READING FRINGE

On Saturday lunchtime, we have WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT GOOD OLD AUTISM?

Last year Aspiregers asked “How can people with Autism Help You?” and we had great fun telling you. So, this year we are asking “Where would we be without good old Autism?” in which we will be taking a larger than life and compelling look into how Autism has revolutionised the world we live in today.

Doors at 11:30am, performance starts at 12:00pm and it'll cost you £10 (£8 concessions) at the door

On Saturday afternoon, we have…

MY LIFE CLOSED TWICE

After being diagnosed aged 20, Joe’s life becomes a cacophony of visions, voices and questionable media stereotypes. As his life changes completely, he will find new friends and unlikely allies on his journey, first to defy the expectations of his illness, then to redefine himself by his own terms.

DO MY BOOBS LOOK BIG IN THIS?

A show about body image for anyone who has ever worried that their boobs are too big or too small. And for those with perfect boobs. And for those with none. Why is our self-worth linked to our self-image? Both light-hearted and deep, this show will make you think. And laugh. And maybe even cry a little bit.

STAND UP, WEATHER GIRL!

Sam Fraser has been a BBC local weather presenter since 2012, on a steep learning curve. Flattered by online comments about her bottom, she wonders, can you be a full-time feminist and a part-time weather girl? Join her as she forecasts storms of delight and gales of laughter!

FOREIGN AMERICAN

Armed with a pair of high heels and a ukulele, let me sing you a story…

Music performance with a twist. A mixture of covers accompanied by ukulele and body percussion and original spoken word pieces. A bit of storytelling and social activism.

Doors open at 12pm, starts at 12.30pm and it’ll cost you £7 on the door

GO SLAY DRAGONS

Dan was almost shot – and it’s all Rupert Murdoch’s fault. Kinda. A lefty snowflake somehow working at The Sun, fighting the choir of voices in his head leads him on a noble quest in this demonstrably true tale of love, adventure and song.

Doors at 2:00pm, starts at 2:30pm, and it’ll cost you £10 (£8 concessions) on the door

THE MILLER'S STORY

An adaptation of Chaucer’s “The Miller’s Tale” told through physical comedy, mask and theatre. A romp through the journey of an ageing Miller as he travels to London to meet his fellow pilgrims before heading to Canterbury. They spend the night at the Talbot Inn, singing, dancing and telling stories into the early morning. Come and join us and become one of the revellers for a night of rambunctious comedy.
