Hi Everyone
You know, I was planning a long pre-amble about this week's exciting cornucopia of all things Rising Sun related, but after some consideration/faffing about, I felt it might be better to let this weekend's events speak for themselves...
On Saturday afternoon we bring you another helping of VINYL CLUB
Vinyl Club, I hear you ask? Well, it's a great opportunity to listen to a record undisturbed and the chance to discover new music! Come and relax at Vinyl Club, as we peacefully and silently listen to two records back-to-back in their fully intended glory
Each month somebody brings along two records to listen to, followed by a short discussion. Anyone can join in, and the bar will be open for you to grab a tea, coffee, or beer to better help you relax with the music.
If you'd like to bring along some records for a future Vinyl Club then drop a line to Guy Siviour info@risingsun-artscentre.co.uk
We're open from 1pm to 3pm, and it's absolutely FREE!
Also on Saturday afternoon John Hoggett brings you a DRAMA WORKSHOP
Reading has a a long history of participatory drama. Various companies have been inspired by the work of Augusto Boal in Reading to use drama for diversity training. As part of the Hidden Histories projectand the Rising Sun's 25th anniversary celebrations, experienced dramatist John Hoggett will be putting on a workshop leading to a daring intervention somewhere in Reading which raises the issue of homelessness and asks who controls the town.
It's running from 1pm to 4pm, and it's absolutely FREE!
On Saturday evening, it's time for FIESTA LATINA
A fun and sociable dance night featuring a mix of Latin dances from tango to meringue, salsa to bachata and all the stops in between (La Rueda is a speciality). Very friendly evening in somewhere that could have been lifted straight out of Cuba. Come and enjoy some hot Latin rhythms.
We'll be open at 9pm and it'll cost you a paltry £6 on the door to get in
On Sunday John Hoggett brings you a LOCAL VOCALS WORKSHOP
In the early1980's Reading had a tradition of holding voice workshops on the top of multi-storey car parks. John Hoggett will be leading a voice class a the centre. If enough people attend the workshop this will be followed by a choir improvising on a simple theme somewhere in Reading's town centre. The workshop will consist of simple, enjoyable exercises that anyone can take part in and is suitable for people of all vocal abilities, from the novice to skilled singers
It's running from 1pm to 4pm, and it'll cost you a paltry £2
For more information on either of this weekend's workshops contact John Hoggett on 0118 9415144 or hoggett1@hotmail.com
That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
