Hi Everyone

"I have my books and my poetry to protect me" so sang Simon and Garfunkel on their song I Am a Rock.  I'd really like to see how far that would get them on a Saturday night out in Folkestone...

And with that particular pop at an erstwhile singing duo out of the way, it's time to to tell you what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday, it's time for another CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of beat combos for the enjoyment of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ and it looks just so, and this particular episode acts as a baby shower for ED LOFTSTEDT

Yes fatherhood beckons for Ed and this is your last chance to see him play live before his life gets flipped turned upside-down and many of his songs no longer make sense or become lyrically inappropriate.

Ed's songs are touched with the melodrama of Sufjan Stevens, Guy Garvey and Justin Vernon; big-hearted, melodic, and wry.

All profits from the first pressing of his new EP will be donated to Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

OCEAN RUINS
From that Newbury.  Your fave new band. Fierce - almost angst ridden like Patti Smith or Karen On hot sunny Sunday afternoon. Fab.

http://www.oceanruins.co.uk/

We're open at 8.00pm and tickets are £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com or £7 on the door

On Saturday, we bring you FIESTA LATINA

A fun and sociable dance night featuring a mix of Latin dances from tango to meringue, salsa to bachata and all the stops in between (La Rueda is a speciality). Very friendly evening in somewhere that could have been lifted straight out of Cuba. Come and enjoy some hot Latin rhythms.

We'll be open at 9pm and it'll cost you a paltry £6 on the door to get in

Finally, Sunday sees another OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
