This Weekend's Events (22nd to 24th February)

Hi Everyone

After watching Bargain Hunt recently, it does seem to me that a lot of people are keen to have something that's slightly obscure yet collectible.  Especially if they think it might be worth something.  Which reminds me, I have a £2 coin with a picture of a woman on one side wearing some sort of hat.  Is it worth anything?

And also, it's time to to tell you what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday, it's time for another CLUB VELOCITY

Another fine selection of beat combos for the enjoyment of us all courtesy of Velocity HQ and it looks just so

OCEAN RUINS
All the best bands are three pieces. Ocean Ruins have got seriously tasty over the last 12 months.

They deal in female fronted 90s (early) sassy indie sludgy rock, with songs.  Newbury is the new Seattle.  Kurt listens to them in his bedsit in heaven.

BLIND RHYTHM
Stupidly young band from Newbury-see it is the new Seattle.  After playing here last year, many a seasoned gig goer were very impressed and said to book them again.  Female fronted rock tinged guitar greatness.  Impressive band alert.

VOODOO RADIO
Round here,  We love a panto, we really do.  Going to the panto is very punk rock.  Paige from Voodoo Radio is staring in panto this year in Lincoln.  Voodoo Radio are a two piece piece punk rock-with an extra side of meat band.  Female vocals that kill you.For fans of the Ramones/Joan Jett/The Adverts/The Runaways/Shonen Knife.  You get the picture.

We’ll be open at 8pm and it’ll cost you £7 on the door, or £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com

On Saturday evening, we bring you FIESTA LATINA

A fun and sociable dance night featuring a mix of Latin dances from tango to meringue, salsa to bachata and all the stops in between (La Rueda is a speciality). Very friendly evening in somewhere that could have been lifted straight out of Cuba. Come and enjoy some hot Latin rhythms.

We'll be open at 9pm and it'll cost you a paltry £6 on the door to get in

Sunday sees another OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
