Hi Everyone
I, your humble narrator, have just about enough time away from my other job as "Swearing Consultant" on the all-new all-singing Songs of Praise to tell you what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend
Friday sees something special fron STAND UP CINEMA
The one place in Reading showing rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems! It's also the one place in Reading where you can enjoy a nice organic beer with your popcorn (and also, we now offer fresh ground coffee!)
If you would like to showcase your work contact info@real-time.org.uk. They don't have to be in the final form, just 10 minutes or less!
This month's main feature is STROSZEK (1977, Werner Herzog)
Featuring a cast mostly comprised of non-actors, Stroszek is Herzog's take on the American dream - part absurd comedy, part moral fable.
In all the years we've been doing Stand Up Cinema we haven't shown a film from Herzog (Kermode and Mayo's favourite German director, no less). We're happy to put that right with this undisputed classic. It also belongs to a very select band of films with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. (And you can't really top that!)
We're open at 7pm. Short films start at 7.30pm and Stroszek starts at 8pm.
It'll cost you a paltry £4 at the door to get in!
By the way, you might like to know that FIESTA LATINA has been moved to next week. In the meantime, I'm told that it's Heavy Metal night on the X-Factor this weekend, which means that as whichever android replicant mimes their way through Judas Priest's "Breaking The Law" you can probably expect a slightly befuddled Louis Walsh to tell them they look like a young Tim Brooke-Taylor. (Which is ironic as Gold will be showing that episode of The Goodies where Rob Halford turns up as Tim's evil twin)
That's everything for another weekend, just to remind you that you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you put us in your Google or SatNav, we shall magically appear)
