This Weekend's Events (21st to 23rd June)

Hello again

I'm feeling so tired that the matchsticks I was using to prop my eyes open have now snapped.  So I'll try and get through all of this Rising Sun malarkey and then get off to bed.

On Friday, we bring you STAND UP CINEMA

Stand Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun and Real Time Video. Events are held every three months and feature short films by artists and filmmakers. We ask that filmmakers attend the event and are prepared to Stand Up and speak about the film or sit and answer questions/take part in discussion.

This is a lively and fun event with films shown by a wide variety of local creative people. The theme this time around is film and poetry. (Films of poets, films as poems, films about poems, films with embedded poetry, film as a way of presenting poetry, films and text).

If you would like to show a film at a future night, contact Real Time Video on info@real-time.org.uk

We're open at 7pm and it's absolutely free to get in (but we suggest you keep a little something aside as a donation)

On Saturday evening, we have another FIESTA LATINA for your delectation

A fun and sociable dance night featuring a mix of Latin dances from tango to meringue, salsa to bachata and all the stops in between (La Rueda is a speciality). Very friendly evening in somewhere that could have been lifted straight out of Cuba. Come and enjoy some hot Latin rhythms.

We'll be open at 9pm and it'll cost you a paltry £6 on the door to get in

Sunday sees another helping of OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

And also on Tuesday, we pay host to its sister show IRREGULAR OPEN STAGE, which also starts at 7pm and again, is absolutely free!

That's everything for another week.  Just to remind you, that barring bizarre unexplained Acts of God and suchlike, you can find us at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST etc (If you pop it into your satnav, Google or suchlike we shall magically appear!)
