Hi Everyone

There has been a large amount of controversy in recent days concerning the appointment of a woman as the new Doctor Who.  Some of it reaching levels of outrage usually reserved for things that… make people very outraged indeed.  I, your humble narrator, really must express some outrage of my own.  It’s rather depressing that yet again, they’ve not only chosen yet another professional thespian, but, once more, somebody from Planet Earth to play an a alien being who can change their appearance once every few years.  Come on BBC!  Why not show some sense and pick a real alien next time?  (A bit like you did with Tom Baker over forty years ago… allegedly…)

Ironically, things take a rather different turn at the Rising Sun this week, as we happen to be one of many people who are playing host to READING FRINGE

On Friday, we have MARIA PETERS - THE SCIENCE OF CRINGE

Maria Peters brings her comedy to the Rising Sun.

What makes a human cringe? What even *is* it? And what could we achieve if we ignored it?
Are you cringing reading this? Would a Dad joke help? I’m c-ringing you up on my cringe-o-phone now to tell you it. Wait- Come back!

Police! PC Ringe here!

No, YOU'VE taken it too far.

It's an experiment. Behavioural science, character comedy & storytelling collide.

"Not to be missed" - Time Out
"Left me helpless with laughter" - Fringe Guru (5 stars)

Performance starts at 9.00pm, and it’ll cost you £8 on the door

On Saturday afternoon, we have…

BORN TO SUM
Kyle D Evans brings maths, folk and jokes to the Rising Sun for Reading Fringe Festival!

Who’d’ve thought pop culture and mathematics were such good friends? Enter folk mathematician and 2016 Famelab winner Kyle D Evans - and his trusty guitar - here to take you on a comedic musical tour through some unexpected parallels between maths & pop.

Performance starts at 4.30pm and it’ll cost you £8 on the door

JUST DON’T DO IT
Sex, celibacy, 21st Century female sexuality …and the church

Modern female sexuality and Christianity: are they as uncomfortable bedfellows as they appear to be?

Join two clowns delving into the confusing, the painful and the funny whilst asking if ‘Just Don’t Do It’ is the sum of what the church has to say about pre-marital sex.

Performance starts at 5.45pm and it’ll cost you £10 on the door

A BOY NAMED PUGH
The debut show from English Comedian of the Year 2016, who "finds laughs in unusual places" (Chortle).

Josh Pugh brings award winning comedy to the Rising Sun for 2017's Reading Fringe Festival.

Performance starts at 7pm and it’ll cost you £8 on the door

D’ARCEHOLE
As part of Reading Fringe Festival, teacher turned game-keeper (comedian) reveals all.

Jo D'Arcy got called ALL the names in High School, then went back to teach and got them all again, but none of them are as bad as the names she's called herself.

'Funny bones and a clownish sensibility, a little like a female Rik Mayall' (Bruce Dessau)

Performance starts at 8:30pm and it’ll cost you £8 on the door

And on Sunday, we have a repeat showing of JUST DON’T DO IT

Sex, celibacy, 21st Century female sexuality …and the church

Modern female sexuality and Christianity: are they as uncomfortable bedfellows as they appear to be?

Join two clowns delving into the confusing, the painful and the funny whilst asking if ‘Just Don’t Do It’ is the sum of what the church has to say about pre-marital sex.

Performance starts at 5pm and it’ll cost you £10 on the door

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
