This Weekend's Events (20th to 31st December)

Hi Everyone

Christmas is upon us! Michael Buble has finally released enough Christmas albums to pay off his council tax (and maybe, just maybe take care of the gas bill), Noddy Holder has booked next year's holiday and turkeys have finally realised somewhat reluctantly that poultry genocide is an actual thing

(If that sounds distressing, just remember that turkeys are a truly evil and unlovable species.  And if it means an extra goose, duck or chicken is spared, then that's something we can all do a little Dad-dance to...)

And in other news, we have plenty to keep you entertained over the festive period at the Rising Sun

On Friday, we have a Festive STAND-UP CINEMA

Local filmmakers are invited to submit short films for The Rising Sun and Real-Time Video’s quarterly event showing short films by local – or not so local - creators.  The only stipulation is that you should be in the room when the film is shown to take part in the discussion.

This time around, you're cordially invited to wrap up cosily in front of a warm log fire our and enjoy the magic and mystery of the winter season. 3-minute films on winter – interpreted as widely as you like.

We will have mulled wine and a real fire going to complement the evening's wintry theme
For more information drop a line to Real-Time Video at info@real-time.org.uk

We're open at 7.30pm and it's absolutely FREE!

On Saturday,  CLUB VELOCITY PRESENTS

The third Saturday of the month?  The third Saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town

THE KEEP CATS
First arrived onstage when they were 12.  Four years on, they are honestly one of the most talked-about bands round these parts.  Played in front of a packed Sub89 at AYL19 - where many said they were the band of the whole festival. Live you will struggle to find a better teenage band on the circuit. They have tunes too. The sound of what it means to be young in 2019.

HARROLAND
Still our fave new band in the world. Do not know why, but trust us on this one.

MARCUSMIDI
A living legend and so we are told, the whole point the powers that be at Velocity HQ put on gigs.

We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you £5 in advance from  www.wegottickets.com and slightly more than that on the night

Finally, on New Year's Eve, CLUB VELOCITY bring  their annual NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY

MARK MORRISS (The Bluetones) returns with his solo headline show in Reading this December Mark Morriss back at the Rising Sun

Mark is a singer-songwriter who famously made his name fronting English indie outfit The Bluetones during the 1990s.  Mark fronted the four-piece over a successful and fruitful 15 year period, scoring 14 top ten singles and 3 top ten albums,

Although The Bluetones are now touring again, Mark has continued the solo career that started back in 2008.

Solo he is honestly one of the best solo acts on the circuit. He does all the Bluetones hits on his acoustic guitar-plus his great solo songs.

This will be a great show.  If you missed him last time - please don't be so silly this time around.

And he's ably supported by ace, great, essential singer-songwriter JESSICA LEE MORGAN

We're open from 8pm and it'll cost you £12.50 in advance from www.wegottickets.com and slightly more than that on the night

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

And before we forget...

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

From everybody at The Rising Sun
