This Weekend's Events (20th to 22nd September)

Hi Everyone

I was in JD Sports the other day (other sports shops are available) and I asked one of the people working there if he knew the price of a rucksack, and he replied pleasantly with a definitive and final-sounding "I'm sorry, I have no idea."  It's quality customer service like this that makes visiting shops rather than shopping online an absolute pleasure!

And now that's out of the way, here's what we have for you delectation at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday STAND UP CiNEMA presents SILENT FILMS

Local filmmakers are invited to submit short films for The Rising Sun and Real-Time Video’s quarterly event showing short films by local – or not so local - creators. The only stipulation is that you should be in the room when the film is shown to take part in discussion. This month’s event focuses on silent films.

Can you tell a story in pictures?

For this event we’re on the lookout for films where the focus is on the moving image. As always the criteria is open to interpretation, the only stipulation being your film needs to be under 3 mins long. Live musical accompaniment is laudable if you can make it happen!

For more information drop a line to Real-Time Video at info@real-time.org.uk

We're open at 7.30pm and it's absolutely FREE!

On Saturday, CLUB VELOCITY PRESENTS

The third Saturday of the month?  The third Saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town

BLIND RHYTHM
"Stupidly young band from Newbury-see it is the new Seattle.Played the Rising Sun Arts Centre earlier in 2019.  Many a seasoned gig-goer were very impressed and said to book them again.  Female-fronted rock-tinged guitar greatness. Impressive band alert" is the opinion of Jamal-Andre Raccoon of the Evergreen Standard Midweek

ELUCIDATE
"Brand spanking new band on the Berkshire scene.  Very clever, intelligent guitar rock-pop for the masses.  Plus believe-for us oldies-there is a Thousand Yard Stare connection" according to Django Woke from Online Petition Weekly

THE KID DEAN
"Full-on throttle, jump up in the air teen rollupunk garage beat combo. Like eating ice cream on a hot sunny day.  Fierce" is the considered opinion of Jean-Marc Van der Kerkhoff of Red-Hot Rocking Now! which I am reliably informed, is Antwerp's biggest selling journal devoted to Christian Donk, Folk-Grindcore Fusion and 5-a-side Table Tennis.

We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com and slightly more than that on the night

Finally, Sunday sees another OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE

A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however, the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.

We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
