Hi Everyone

May has been quite busy so far, and as we are nothing, if not consistent right now, we have yet another weekend this time round, starting with Friday, when we bring you STAND-UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.

This month as part of the Year of Culture (the theme for this month is Reading and its history) We are showcasing the work of local filmmakers.  Included are two films by Lea Winchcombe of J25 productions

We'll be starting at 7.30pm and it'll cost you a paltry £4 on the door.

On Saturday, we have BANDORAMA

The third saturday of the month?  The third saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.

BLANK BIBLES
Hailing from London, although have Reading links-three of them are also in Bear And The Woods

"Like Paul Simon having a fight with Fleetwood Mac, whilst The Temper Trap are the referee.  A Proper band.  They have truly great songs and everything." opines Gladys Seahawk of People's Friend Xtreme

BIG ZERO
"They are the future of pop!!  Hopefully pretty soon, people will really start to take notice.  Jump in, before the boat leaves the dock....to the charts!"  is the opinion of Jamal-Andre Raccoon of the Evergreen Standard Midweek

PACK OF THIEVES
"Tasty new ear meat, from new punk rock kids on the block.  Guitar music is sexy, again" do says Clive Dracula of Salmon, Trout and Sea Trout Digest

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £5 on the door to get in (£4 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

On Sunday, READ COLLEGE bring you a Brand New COMEDY PREMIERE!

8 actors, 1 director, 3 weeks, no script…

Witness the world premiere of a new devised comedy show!  For the third year running, Seamus Allen (London 50 Hour Improvathon regular) will be directing a hilarious new comedy, which nobody, including him, knows about yet! Previous productions have included Joan of Asda, the epic tale of a group

of secret agents trying to find the chosen one from amongst the supermarket aisles, and last year's sell-out Goin' Down, the story of a lost tribe of misfits in the London Underground tunnels and their herd of blood-thirsty cows…

Physical theatre, comedy and improv all come together to create an unforgettable night!

Turn up early to make sure you get in…last year was standing room only!

This event supports the Student Hardship Fund at Read Dance and Theatre College (registered charity no 1142899).

We're open at 7.30pm and there's no ticket price - just donate to the charity what you think the evening was worth when you leave!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Hi Everyone

With the nights drawing in, what better place to spend them than a friendly, well-stocked and welcoming bar complete with its own fire?
