Hi Everyone
The sun is out, the sky is blue. There's even some clouds for all those people who aren't that keen on sunny weather and I've even heard rumours of a cyclist who stopped at a red light…
And with so much going on, and the town being all abuzz with something that makes the townspeople make some sort of collective buzzing noise it’s time to let you know what's happening at the Rising Sun this very weekend...
It all starts on Friday with another helping of STAND UP CINEMA
Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.
Our main feature this month is L'AGE d'OR (Luis Buñuel, 1930)
Luis Buñuel's surrealist masterpiece, a tale of a man and a woman in love who’s attempts to consummate their passion are thwarted by family, the Church, and bourgeois society. Buñuel disrupts rational time and space to celebrate the beauty of the irrational..
It'll cost you a paltry £5 on the door. Short Films start at 7.30. The Holy Mountain starts showing at 8.00 pm.
On Saturday, CLUB VELOCITY presents an evening with STEVE IGNORANT
Something different this time round as Steve Ignorant (Slice of Life/Crass) in conversation with Jonny Wah Wah (Deckchairs/On Trial UK)
Johnny will be asking Steve questions about his upbringing, the music that influenced him, life in Crass, everything in between and right up to what he is currently doing with Slice Of Life.
Their will be sections where songs that influenced, mean a lot to Steve and along with some songs by the man himself will have an airing over the PA as part of the show and there's a Question and Answer section to finish the evening.
We'll be open at 8pm. This is a seated show which starts at 8.30 (so please don't be late)
And it'll cost you £14 on the door to get in or £12 in advance from www.wegottickets.com
Finally, Sunday sees another OPEN PAGE/OPEN STAGE
A monthly collaborative event for writers, artists, musicians, and everyone in between! The premise is an extension of the traditional ‘open mic’, however the focus is on words and collaboration. We want people to come and showcase their art in a safe and comfortable environment. If you’re an artist, bring your work early on so we can hang it around. If you write – poetry, prose, songs, plays – bring a piece or an excerpt. Actors – come and practice for auditions! If you play an instrument, bring it along! Think of the evening as a cross-creative spectrum jam night.
We’re open at 7pm and it’s absolutely FREE!
That's everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
Have a nice weekend!
