This Weekend's Events (1st to 3rd November)

Hi Everyone

The clocks have gone back - an extra hour in bed in the morning is always welcome but the evenings are dark and cold. What better way to lift your spirits on these long Autumnal nights than down at the Rising Sun.

We have a packed weekend this time, starting with Friday evening when we bring you the Autumn instalment of TRIBUTE NIGHT

Anyone who has been to a Rising Sun Tribute Night will already know the deal. Every three months we pay homage to a much-loved band or artist.  Everyone picks a song or two, practices them for a bit, then gets together again on Tribute Night to play them to a crowd - always with fascinating results. The next Tribute Night’s hero is announced at the end of the evening. It’s a simple but winning formula and is silly amounts of fun.

It’s heads-down, no-nonsense rock’n’roll as the Tribute Night train sets down nicks up at the stop marked AC/DC

With the trademark twin power chord bludgeon attack of brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, paired with the larynx-grating shriek of singer Bon Scott and, later, Brian Johnson, AC/DC established one of the defining formulas of the ’70s and beyond

We’ll be open at 8pm for a prompt 8.30 start.  And as usual, there’s no charge on the door, but we suggest you keep £5 or more aside for when the friendly people with hats circulate the room, the bar, the hallway, the porch, the little bit of pavement out the front, and the smoking pen out the back during the interval.

All donations go to the Rising Sun.

If you would like to join the mailing list and stay up to date with Tribute Night events, please send an email to TributeNight@hotmail.co.uk.

Please also visit the Rising Sun's YouTube channel to see footage of previous Tribute Nights.

Finally, we make it to Sunday afternoon and we pay host to the BALBOA TEA DANCE

After the roaring success of previous Tea Dances, we are back with another edition to raise money for the Balboa Mondays home. So come along, have a dance and eat cake to help put some money towards the Rising Sun Arts Centre. This time to raise money to get a suitable covering on the floor in the upstairs room (having previously raised the money to replace the underlying floor base) to improve our ability to shuffle, jazz step and Rueda our way through 2019 and beyond!

We will be kicking the afternoon off at 2:00pm with a taster balboa class, then from 2.30pm onwards we will have the finest DJs playing tunes for your dancing pleasure right the way through to 6.00pm whilst offering ample opportunities to partake of tea and cake. All this for a bargain £10 on the door!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
