Hi Everyone
I keep hearing some song where some bloke called Cliff Richard goes on about "logs on the fire and gifts on the tree". I think it's safe to say that nobody in house is getting a new bike for Christmas.
Christmas, I'l say that word again. It appears that the poor man's Channukkah is just around the corner. As I speak. turkeys all over Britain are listening to a non-stop selcetion of Leonard Cohen and Morrisey, Phil Spector is calculating how much snout he can buy from this year's sales of his Christmas album, the Queen is looking theough her speech one last time and wondering she should call her eldest son's bluff and make him do the speech instead.
Oh, and before it completely slips my mind, we have a full weekend of events to tell you about at the Rising Sun...
Friday sees something special fron STAND UP CINEMA
The one place in Reading showing rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems! It's also the one place in Reading where you can enjoy a nice organic beer with your popcorn (and also, we now offer fresh ground coffee!)

This month's main future is ALPHAVILLE (1965, Jean-Luc Godard)
Alphaville is science fiction, science fiction as interpreted through the mind of Jean-Luc Godard where nothing is ever quite what it seems. Godard challenges pre conceptions with a black humour that makes alphaville at once a film noir and a vicious black comedy. Eddy Constantine plays Lemmy Caution – a character he had already played straight in a number of detective b movies - who is sent to a distant planet to confront the super computer Alpha 60. The film is a gem, Godard is a prankster, he destroys every concept he touches but always in an illuminating and entertaining way. He was also a technical innovator and this is one of his best films, well designed, groundbreaking and lots of fun.
One of Godard's classic movies, an absolute delight from start to finish
We're open at 7pm. Short films start at 7.30pm and Alphaville starts at 8pm. It'll cost you a paltry £4 at the door to get in!
