Hi Everyone
September has been a little quiet so far (let's be honest, we can't keep up our maximum red-hot pace all the time!) However, this time around we have a packed weekend to tell you about at the Rising Sun!
On Friday, we have something special from STAND UP CINEMA
Back from its summer holiday, it might be a good idea to remind you all that Stand Up Cinema is the one place in Reading showing rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems!
If you would like to showcase your work contact info@real-time.org.uk. They don't have to be in the final form, just 10 minutes or less!
This month's main feature is PRIMER (2004, Shane Carruth).
Not the documentary concerning the late 80s/early 90s funk-rock outfit Living Color as I, your humble narrator first thought, but the highly engrossing, Sundance Grand Jury Prize winning 2004 tale of four young engineers experimenting with time travel and the travails that ensue.
Cult, intellectual, low budget, time travel movie. Take our word for it, this is the business.
We're open at 7pm. Short films start at 7.30pm and Primer starts at 8pm. It'll cost you a paltry £4 at the door to get in!
On Saturday, it's time for BANDORAMA!
One of the town’s top band nights (on the third Saturday of the month anyway)
Even though we say so ourselves, this should be one of the gigs of the year!!
Not only will there be free cake and shizzle in abundance, but you can also expect the following selection of aural delights!
THE AUGUST LIST
A husband and wife duo, who over the last two years have really learnt their art at the Rising Sun. It's been a sheer joy to see a band grow and grow and grow some more.Very much a Club Velocity success story.
Sound? Like the greatest two piece rocknroll band on the planet.Who cares about the Kills going on tour? If Peel was still alive the August List would be on their tenth Peel Session by now!!
By the way, did we mention they've just recorded an album?
VIENNA DITTO
Vienna Ditto return to our humblke abode with a stripped to the bone gospel/blues set!
BEAR JONES
Lead chap from the Bear And The Woods in some rare solo action.
We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you £5 on the door to get in or £4 inadvance if you go via that new-fangled www.wegottickets.co.uk
Finally on Sunday, we bring you MILONGA SIMPATICA
A small, friendly milonga aimed at giving people a chance to dance tango in a relaxed and stress-free environment. Good company, tea and cakes are provided.
We’re open from 4.30pm and it’ll only cost you £6 on the door.
That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
Have a nice weekend!
