This Weekend's Events (17th to 19th November)

Hi Everyone

People often like to say that ‘there’s light at the end of the tunnel.’  What nonsense!  I once travelled on the 11.15pm Eurostar to Paris and when we emerged from the tunnel at Calais it was definitely still dark...

Anyway, we have another busy weekend at the Rising Sun, starting with Friday and STAND UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.

Our main feature this month is PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (Ed Wood, 1959)

An American independent black and white science fiction-horror film, starring Bela Lugosi, Mona McKinnon, Tor Johnson, and Vampira. "The epitome of so-bad-it's-good cinema, Plan 9 From Outer Space is an unintentionally hilarious sci-fi 'thriller' from anti-genius Ed Wood which is justly celebrated for its staggering ineptitude” which is the opinion from Rotten Tomatoes (who, let’s face it, are sometimes very difficult to impress…)

It'll cost you a paltry £4 on the door.  Short Films start at 7.30. Plan 9 starts showing at 8.00 pm.

Saturday sees another thrilling instalment of BANDORAMA

The third Saturday of the month?  The third Saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.

A VERY DEEP HOLE
Your fave psyche garage five piece punks.  A band for people who know their garage from their garage.  If you get our drift…

WOLFS
Two piece from some place called Oxford who are slowly but surely becoming firm faves round these parts.  Left of centre pop music for kids of all ages who know their punk rock.

ROVES
New kids on the block, already causing waves round these parts.  Made a lot of new friends the first time they played here.

(Unfortunately, Quiet Quiet Band have had to pull out)

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £6 on the door to get in or £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com

Finally on Sunday, MILONGA SIMPATICA brings you TANGO SELECT

A small, friendly afternoon milonga aimed at giving people a chance to dance tango in a relaxed and stress-free environment and this month we bring you live music from Tango Select. Tango Select play a selection of very danceable tangos, vals and milongas. Great for dancers or come to listen and enjoy the ambience and the friendly atmosphere of the Rising Sun.

We'll be open from 4pm-8pm  And it'll cost you a paltry £8. Join us.

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
