Hi Everyone

Yesterday's bizarre unseasonal weather certainly brought out some equally strange behaviour from the people of Reading.  On the way home,  I saw somebody driving a convertible.  Despite his somewhat advanced years, he was saying to the world that he was cool, he was as the young people say "sick, innnit".  And then I heard what was playing from his in-car stereo.  It was "Silence Is Golden" by The Tremeloes.  Then I started laughing.  Then somebody else started laughing....

Anyhow, at the Rising Sun this weekend we hae a couple of things that we think you should come and see, regardless of whether you are or aren't having a mid-life crisis...

On Friday READING SWING JAM bring you ALLEY CAT BLUES

In a change from its usual home, Alley Cat Blues is monthly Blues social an evening of Blues and Fusion music and dancing.  It shall still be awesome and bluesy, just a slightly different location and still walking distance from the train station too!

We'll be open at 8pm, and it'll cost you £5 for the whole night (or a 2 for 1 deal for students)

On Saturday, it's time for BANDORAMA

LITTLE RED
Championed by the likes of BBC Introducing Berkshire and BBC Introducing Oxford.  Little Red (Ian Mitchell, Ben Gosling and Hayley Bell) are a musical outfit inspired by Neil Young, PJ Harvey, First Aid Kit and Elliot Smith. They write and perform songs of a dark and playful wit with passion and sincerity.

THE SEASONS IN SHORTHAND
An alt-folk four piece combining heartfelt introspective songs with driving basslines and inventive percussion. Starting life as the acoustic project of songwriter Lee Switzer, the band have come together and developed a unique sound that brings his lyrics to life between moments of intimate acoustic folk and full on panic. With a collection of live recordings available online, and their debut EP was released early 2016.

JEN BIRD
A lot of people talking about this new(ish) singer songwriter.  Based in Reading and causing a stir or two.  Welcome her with open arms!

THE VANITY PROJEKT
"Al Murray is a HUGE fan" so it says here

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £5 on the door to get in (£4 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

Finally on Sunday, MILONGA SIMPATICA brings you TANGO SELECT

A small, friendly afternoon milonga aimed at giving people a chance to dance tango in a relaxed and stress-free environment and this month we bring you live music from Tango Select. Tango Select play a selection of very danceable tangos, vals and milongas. Great for dancers or come to listen and enjoy the ambience and the friendly atmosphere of the Rising Sun. The band haven’t played in a little while so its great to welcome them back for their 1st milonga of the year!

We'll be open from 4.30pm  And it'll cost you a paltry £8. Join us.

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
