Hi Everyone
You know, I was planning a long pre-amble about this week's exciting cornucopia of all things Rising Sun related, but after some consideration/faffing about, I felt it might be better to let this weekend's events speak for themselves...
We have a very busy weekend this time round, starting with Friday, when we bring you STAND-UP CINEMA
Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at the next Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk
This month's main feature is THE HOURGLASS SANATORIUM (Wojciech Has, 1973)
A young man visits his father in a sanatorium where the laws of time and space appear no to apply. A haunting, enigmatic treatise on the subconsciuos, death and the passage of time. Wojciech's film is full of surreal imagery, an assault on the senses, al;beit a very beautiful one.
The Hourlglass Sanatorium is being shown as part of this year's Reading Fringe Festival. You can check out what else is going on as part of The Fringe at www.readingfringefestival.co.uk)
We're open at 7pm and it'll cost you a paltry £4 on the door. Short Films start at 7.30. The Hourglass Santorium starts showing at 8.00 pm
On Saturday it's time for BANDORAMA
The third saturday of the month? The third saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.
AREA 52
Five teenagers doing the grungey pop thing in 2015 very well. They seem to like the Misfits too.How about a modern day -up to the minute Cay? Or a more commerical sounding Muffs?
One of the most talked about bands round these parts. Have been played on Radio 1,already. Yowsa!!
THE FRANKLYS
This will be the third Reading gig-all at the Rising Sun Arts Centre. We reallly, really rate this band.
The deal in sassy fuzzy g-punk.With a huge slab of bubblegum pop.
John Peel would have LOVED the Franklys.
For fans of Ramones/Sleater Kinney/Period Pains/Bikini Kill/The Hives/The Go Go Cult/Peeches/Slant 6/Lurkers/The Rip Offs/Joan Jett/Blondie/999.....you know the score....
WHICH? KIDS
We really dig/rate these chaps. They are proper and not pretending.
We're open at 8pm, and it'll cost you £5 on the door or £4 in advance from www.wegottickets.co.uk
Finally, on Sunday, MILONGA SIMPATICA presents TANGO SELECT
Reading’s own highly acclaimed tango band are back at the Rising Sun for another afternoon of live tango music. Playing a selection of tangos and vals, some of which you will recognise and others you may not. Tango Select play tracks which are a delight for dancers and great to listen to as well.
Tango Select is the second of our events happening this weekend as part of this year's Reading Fringe Festival
We're open from 4.30pm to 8pm. And it'll cost you £8 on the door
That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
Have a nice weekend!
