Hi Everyone

Apparently, it's been brought to my attention that something called the Rugby World Cup has been happening for the last few weeks.  This is news to I, your hunble narrator.  After all, it's not really a World Cup unless it features Germany or Brazil and also, an England team with an absurd sense of entitlement failing to make the grade (oh well, one out of three....)

Enough of such talk, we have yet another packed weekend coming up at the Rising Sun, starting on Friday, when we bring you STAND-UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at the next Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk

This month's main feature is BEAT STREET (Stan Lathan 1984)

Being shown as part of Black History Month, Beat Street brings together a huge number of notable musicians and b-boys/b-girls in performance.  The NY Breakers, Us Girls, Busy Bee, Melle Mel an the Furious FIve, Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force, Tina B, Brenda Starr, Treacherous Three, Kool Herc, Kool Moe Dee and Doug E.  It has a slightly 80-s 'let's make a musical' plot but this shouldn't put anyone off.  It's a snapshot of the Bronx, birthplace of hip hop at a time when hip hop was still about dancing, rapping and graffiti.  The performances, especially the break dance scenes, are outstanding.

Stand Up Cinema Is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video.

A sunday afternoon/early evening opportunity to dance tango in a friendly environment.  Very relaxed, tea nad cakes, great company,  Very simpatico.

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
