Hi Everyone

The other night I had this very vivid dream where I woke up and went to work.  They really do come true

Anyway, we have another busy weekend at the Rising Sun, starting with Friday and STAND UP CINEMA

Back to the Rising Sun and back to its more traditional Friday slot!

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. To get your film shown at a future Stand-Up Cinema contact Real Time at info@real-time.org.uk.

Our main feature this month is FITZCARRALDO (Werner Herzog, 1982)

A West German surreal adventure-drama film starring Klaus Kinski. Would-be rubber baron Brian Fitzgerald, an Irishman known in Peru as Fitzcarraldo, is determined to transport a steamship over a steep hill in order to access a rich rubber territory in the Amazon. "As a document of a quest and a dream, and as the record of man's audacity and foolish, visionary heroism, there has never been another movie like it" so it says here…

It'll cost you a paltry £4 on the door.  Short Films start at 7.30. Raging Bull starts showing at 8.00 pm.

Saturday sees another thrilling instalment of BANDORAMA

The third saturday of the month?  The third saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.

LUCKY PUNKS
Great name alert.  Again great songs.  Not your run of the mill 'indie' guitar band.  These kids are classy.

FIGHTING WITH KITES
A right good old UK rocknroll pop gang hailing from the rural parts of Berkshire.  The lead singer looks like a young-very good looking Thurston Moore.  They are great.  The chaps have a song called John The Postman (hopefully it is actually about Manchester Punk legend John The Postman).  Probably your favourite new teenage band from Berkshire.

DAISY
From that Oxford (seems to be some good music coming out of Oxforshire, let’s face it, has been a while) If Buffalo Tom were silly young and had not grown up on hardcore,.or something.  In other news, this happens to be their second Reading gig…

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £5 on the door to get in (£4 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

On Sunday we have something special from CLUB VELOCITY

An extra helping of Club Velocity this very weekend and it looks just so…

DICK VALENTINE
Come one, come all to the intimate and festive occasion that is the Dick Valentine solo acoustic experience! Experience a seven-or-eight-times-in-a-lifetime chance to be up close and personal with an American music icon. It’s a low pressure, good time affair as the Electric Six frontman strips down all your favourite songs from the Electric Six catalog, plays original solo material and swims in a sea of requested good-time covers.

This tour will be your chance to reach directly into Dick Valentine’s bag and be one of the first to buy a copy of his latest solo work “Robocalls.”  “Robocalls” is Valentine’s fourth solo album and there can be no doubting it will go down as his magnum opus. Imagine Mac DeMarco being spliced with Gordon Lightfoot…and you’ve got two Canadians being fused into one. In the background during the splicing procedure, you might hear a trace of “Robocalls” emanating from the anestheiologist’s iPod.

So you know the drill….drop everything and come see Dick Valentine behaving as a cornered animal as he comes face to face with you, the fans. A night of merriment and frivolity awaits! You will not see Electric Six in 2017 so this is the next best thing!

HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN & UNCLE PEANUT
Two chaps, beats, rants and very punk

DAMIEN A PASSMORE
The tallest cowpunks in all of RG1, sings about Thai Brides, Hillbilly Weddings and Road Kill.

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £10 on the door to get in (£9 in advance from www.wegottickets.com).

(MILONGA SIMPATICA returns next month)

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

This Weekend's Events (11th to 13th October)

Given our brief mention last week that somebody famous has died, it appears that in the intervening days, somebody else who happened to be famous has also died.
