This Weekend's Events (14th to 16th September)

Hi Everyone

I was in JD Sports the other day (other sports shops are available) and I asked one of the people working there if he knew the price of a rucksack, and he replied pleasantly with a definitive and final-sounding "I'm sorry, I have no idea."  It's quality customer service like this that makes visiting shops rather than shopping online an absolute pleasure!

And now that's out of the way, here's what we have for you delectation at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday we bring you THE BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

The Big Untidy Night Out specialises in bringing new unusual talent into the Rising Sun.  Singers, songwriters, poets, punk outfits, ambient experimentalists, sensational cellists and demonic banjo-players, the possibilities are endless.

This time the powers that be at Untidy HQ are pleased and proud to host a night curated by, and featuring Pete Brookes. Pete is a one man Reading music phenomenon who has been at the centre of Reading's music scene for more years than we can politely mention.

This special event will feature two of Pete's musical projects, the neoclassically lovely PAWNBROKER and the wired and ranting HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN AND UNCLE PEANUT. At the special request of Pete we have the superb psych duo FRAUDS and, all the way from Leeds, we have C*LT

We're open at 7.30pm and it'll only cost you a paltry £5 on the door

On Saturday, CLUB VELOCITY PRESENTS

The third Saturday of the month?  The third Saturday of the month at a certain venue in Reading? Surely that means another helping of one of the best band nights in town.

This also doubles as a benefit show for Leckhampton Sue Ryder Care Home

BEN MARWOOD
The powers that be at Velocity HQ have been putting Ben on for years maybe as far back as 2001.  Round these parts he is GOD. And quite possibly a Rising Sun and Reading legend.  And maybe even probably a genius on top of that

THE AUGUST LIST
Another band who've graced us with their presence time after time.  They have become a world class band in the intervening years.  Their latest album is still the best album -as a whole body of work- for the last two years. To our ears

HARROLAND
Probably the best new band in Reading if not the world.  (Or so we're told)

They have songs.  They are slightly odd.  And if there is any music people out there who still believe - then look no further than Harroland.
They could be huge!

We'll be open at 8pm.  And it'll cost you £10 on the door to get in or £8 in advance from www.wegottickets.com

Finally on Sunday, MILONGA SIMPATICA presents TANGO SELECT

Reading's own highly acclaimed tango band are back at the Rising Sun for another afternoon of live tango music. Playing a selection of tangos and vals, some of which you will recognise and others you may not. Tango Select play tracks which are a delight for dancers and great to listen to as well.

We're open from 4.30pm to 8pm.  And it'll cost you £6 on the door

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
