January....  Let's be honest to ourselves, 2017 is taking a little while for people to adjust to.  We too at the Rising Sun, are also a little prone to this and to help both us and you, we have just one event this weekend, it's on Saturday afternoon and it's the first YELLOW TEAPOT CAFE of 2017!

The Yellow Teapot Cafe might do everything a cafe might do. In fact it does , you can buy tea, coffee and soft drinks, biscuit, cake and we would serve a beer if pushed. But we are not a cafe we are an event at the Rising Sun Arts Centre and to that end we can provide so much more! It is a moveable feast. 

It happens every month on the 2nd and last Saturdays between 1 and 3 pm. Like I said, you can find the usual fare but more it is a haven for those who like to look at books and drink tea. We have the beginnings of a little library with picture, poetry and story books for the young at heart. Alongside the aforementioned refreshment we will serve Chinese and Indian teas freely. Also there will be a selection of art materials so there will be opportunity to write and draw as inspired in the gentle creative space. With I hope some background music that will also bring to the fore creative juices. What's not to like?

Actuallly I, your humble narrator, have misled you slightly... that's because Tuesday evening sees the return of STAND UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video. 

This month's main feature is KES (Ken Loach, 1969)

One of Ken Loach's most celbrated works, Kes is the story of Billy Casper (David Bradley), a tormented, under achiever who is subjected to abuse both at school and at home. His bleak existence is counterpointed with his relationship with the kestrel he steals and trains. His ability as a falconer belies his lack of academic success but this is not a film about escape but a film about wasted potential.

Workshops begin at 6.30pm, and Kes starts showing at 7.30pm  It's £3 per workshop, £5 per film or £10 for an annual membership giving access to both!
