This Weekend's Events (10th to 14th March)

Hi Everyone

There's something nice about this time of year, the days get slightly longer, the assorted rain, sleet and snow get a little warmer.  On top of this, you can find almost endless amusement from watching people getting their weekends mixed up and sending a Mother's Day card or putting their clocks forward a couple of weeks early

And it's with this somewhat mischievious spirit in mind, that we let you know what's happening at the Rising Sun this very weekend...

On Friday, we bring you THE BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

The Big Untidy Night Out specialises in bringing new unusual talent into the Rising Sun.  Singers, songwriters, poets, punk outfits, ambient experimentalists, sensational cellists and demonic banjo-players…the possibilities are endless.

This month the powers that be at Untidy HQ have a Gothic Tales special!  A potentially startling mix of dark music and even darker tales. Featuring the return of the excellent operatic metal of INCARDINE COVEN, the pagan folk-rock of SPRIGGAN MIST and the story-telling skills of both JON MASON and, in a new addition to the bill, THE TRAVELLING  TALESMAN (better known in these parts as ex-Pressgang member Cliff Easterbrook)

We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you a paltry £8 on the door to get in

Saturday afternoon sees another YELLOW TEAPOT CAFE

The Yellow Teapot Cafe might do everything a cafe might do. In fact it does , you can buy tea, coffee and soft drinks, biscuit, cake and we would serve a beer if pushed. But we are not a cafe we are an event at the Rising Sun Arts Centre and to that end we can provide so much more! It is a moveable feast. It happens every month on the 2nd and last Saturdays between 1 and 3 pm. Like I said, you can find the usual fare but more it is a haven for those who like to look at books and drink tea. We have the beginnings of a little library with picture, poetry and story books for the young at heart. Alongside the aforementioned refreshment we will serve Chinese and Indian teas freely. Also there will be a selection of art materials so there will be opportunity to write and draw as inspired in the gentle creative space. With I hope some background music that will also bring to the fore creative juices. What's not to like?

We're open from 1pm to 4pm and it'll cost you absolutely nothing to come in!

And that's not all, because on Tuesday evening we bring you another STAND UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video.

The month features a Make It Visual Foley Workshop

Just to stress that sound is as important as visuals in film making, this hands-on workshop will be a practical guide to creating your own sound effects!

This month's main feature is THE CONFORMIST (Bernardo Bertolucci, 1970)

An intimate and complex psychological study of Marcello, a rather weak willed man who is asked to assassinate his former professor. Brilliant cinematography, by Vittorio Storaro and Bertolucci’s poetic direction create a visually stunning masterpiece..

Make It Visual workshops start at 6.30pm / Short films at 7.30pm. £3 per workshop / £5 per film or £10 for an annual membership giving access to both

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
