Hi Everyone

It’s often claimed that a dog is a man’s best friend.  And, during one of the quieter moments at Rising Sun HQ we decided to try this out with Nigel, our Staffordshire Terrier-Hyaena cross.  However, when we asked him if he’d lend us twenty quid to go down the pub with, he didn’t even look up at us to acknowledge we’d spoken to him, let alone put his hand in his pocket.  (Mind you, he normally growls and gnaws at the furniture when we look at him, so I suppose it could’ve been worse…)

Friday sees not the BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

The Big Untidy Night Out specialises in bringing new unusual talent into the Rising Sun.  Singers, songwriters, poets, punk outfits, ambient experimentalists, sensational cellists and demonic banjo-players, the possibilities are endless.

This time around, Big Untidy are very pleased to announce a charity fundraising special in order to help The Willink School continue to assist schools in Moldova (Europes poorest country).

Featuring the Untidy debuts of THE FRACTURED LIZARD and local indie-folk band SPILL THE RIVER. Untidy favourites HEAD OF STEAM return and, heading up the bill, the high energy fun-fest that is THE RUMPO KIDZ.

We’re open at 8pm and mission is only a paltry £7 on the door

Saturday morning brings another BOOKFACE BOOKCLUB

An informal artists book group. Ideal for sharing your latest book finds and creations, sometimes includes art and craft activities for book making

We're open from 10am-12noon and it's only £4

Saturday afternoon sees the return of the YELLOW TEAPOT CAFE

The Yellow Teapot Cafe might do everything a cafe might do. You can buy tea, coffee and soft drinks, biscuit and cake. But we are an event, a haven for those who like to relax, look at books, be creative and drink tea.

We're open from 1pm to 3pm and it'll cost you nothing to come in!

On Saturday evening, MA BESSIE makes a welcome return

Building on her passion for the Empress of the Blues, Julia Titus started to perform as Ma Bessie in mid-2015 to share the music of Bessie Smith and her contemporaries with a new generation of listeners.

Mixing Julia's rich, warm vocal sound with a dynamic group of musicians that look as well as sound the part, Ma Bessie combines classic blues and jazz tunes from the inter-war years with a selection of original songs and hand-
picked covers from the last 50 years of popular music.

We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you £6 on the door or £5 in advance from https://www.wegottickets.com/event/463131?fbclid=IwAR1WkHyw5UZfCmQPoDAB7ETdO5Dqrby5BHKlvj4eDOegEh9A83tddkAMpEc

And on Sunday, to wind down the weekend, we have another helping of TANGO SELECT

Tango Select play classical tangos, milongas and vals including many favourite songs from tango's "Golden Age" composers.  Perfect music to dance to but also a great way to while away a Sunday afternoon if you love listening to inspiring world music.

We're open from 3pm to 6pm and it'll only cost you £8 to get in

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)
