Hi Everyone

Yet again, we have to say a massive thank you to everybody who came to visit us last weekend, especially everybody who came to Tribute Night last Friday.

It was probably one of the busiest nights in our several decades and a bit. And that means a little bit more for us to put towards our upkeep which, even though we so so ourselves, is always welcome Now then, we suggest you put those carnations in the bin and recycle that Valentine's card (they probably won't appreciate it anyway), it's time to regale you all with what you can expect at the Rising Sun this weekend

On Friday we bring you THE BIG UNTIDY NIGHT OUT

The Big Untidy Night Out specialises in bringing new unusual talent into the Rising Sun. Singers, songwriters, poets, punk outfits, ambient experimentalists, sensational cellists and demonic banjo-players…the possibilities are endless. This month the powers that be at Untidy HQ ask you to put the champagne on ice for the coolest Valentines Night celebration ever...possibly...with the victorious return of UFTON NERVET'S RAMSHACKLE UNSTRUNG BAND and the giant voices of both DANIEL EAGLE and MY NORTHERN SKY ...what a line up! Compering this event will be Mr Romance' himself MIKHAIL THE TERRIBLE

We're open at 8pm and it'll cost you a paltry £5 on the door to get in On Saturday, we're pleased to be holding a benefit gig in aid of CENTREPOINT

Raising funds for nationwide youth homelessness charity Centrepoint, we're proud to be hosting a gig featuring some of the best local bands in Reading:...

JONATHAN AMPHLETT AND THE HOME COUNTIES BAND
Performing music by well-renowned local maestro, and frontman Jonathan Amphlett, and supported by a band of musicians from an array of Reading music luminary, including Forget Gravity and Lake of Kings.

PUMA THURMAN
Very exciting, up and coming, their intense Joy Division-esque presence will capture you in a trance.

BUILDINGS ON FIRE
Opening the night, these stalwarts of the Reading indie music scene will be playing tunes from their new EP, along with some older favourites.

We'll be open at 8pm. And it'll cost you £6 on the door to get in or £5 in advance from https://www.wegottickets.com/event/389490

And that's not all, because on Tuesday evening we bring you another STAND UP CINEMA

Screenings of the best locally made film and video plus rarely seen classics, obscure documentaries, cult independents and overlooked modern gems. Stand-Up Cinema is a collaboration between The Rising Sun Arts Centre and Real Time Video.

This month's main feature is LOOKING FOR LOVE (Menelik Shabazz, 2015)

Modern living seems to be at odds with the quality of life associated with the holy grail of inner contentment. This is a no holds barred documentary from a leading British filmmaker combining frank, intimate and humorous interviews alongside carnival footage and spoken word to explore modern relationships

Workshops begin at 6.30pm, and films start showing at 7.30pm  It's £3 per workshop, £5 per film or £10 for an annual membership giving access to both!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!) Have a nice weekend!
