Hi Everyone

First of all, thank you to everyone who came along on Pancake Day.  You might like to know that Finchies are offering second (or even third) helpings this coming Tuesday at 7pm!

Apart from that, it's a little bit quiet over the next few days.  However on Saturday, we bring you something special from CLUB VELOCITY

This week Club Velocity and the Rising Sun are holding a special album launch party for BEAR & THE WOODS!

Bear & The Woods formed in early 2012, with multi-talented musicians Harry Watts and Sam Templeman, members of Reading band South House Daze, and singer-songwriter Bear. Beginning as an acoustic three piece, the band started playing shows around Reading and accruing support wherever they went. After deciding to add drums to the dynamic (involving Ryan Winter, another member of SHD) and a chance encounter with producer and sound engineer, Graeme Rawson, they recorded their first, self-titled, EP. Upon completion of the recording, Graeme signed them to his non-profit, non-exclusive label, The Ubiquity Project (http://ubiprorec.wordpress.com/) and the band had their first radio airplay, winning ‘Demo of the Week’ on Linda Serck’s BBC Introducing Berkshire, with their track ‘The Trial’.

After a change in line-up, and the recruitment of bassist Cary Smith, they played a series of shows between October and November (including support for Ben Marwood and The Retrospective Soundtrack Players) and headed back into the studio for their second Ubiquity Project release, ‘Sink or Swim’. The release was far more mature than their first and really showcased the band’s improvement, as well as their new, unique approach to the sound.

With ‘Sink or Swim’ receiving critical acclaim from local music blogs, Bear & The Woods set off on another series of shows, this time taking them around the South of England (including a support slot for Xtra Mile artists Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun) and receiving further coverage from Linda Serck and BBC Introducing Berkshire.

They returned to the studio again in July 2013 to record their first single, ‘Run, Rabbit’, to be released in October 2013 and plan to bring their uniquely branded ‘Folk'n'Roll’ to the masses in the months to come.
