'Tis the Season at the Rising Sun

It’s that time of year again… we’ve got plenty of reasons to feel festive here at centre with a host of seasonal events.

Some might think it’s still a bit early to be thinking about Christmas but it’ll be here before you know it! Whether it’s music, art or comedy, we’ve got something for everyone this Christmas period. So check out all the reasons why December will be magical again:

Sunday Dec 2nd – Christmas Art Market

  • Browse stalls on two floors selling unique, handmade and original works of art and crafts direct from local artists. Plus, family art activities and homemade cakes, snacks and mulled wine.

11am-5pm, Free entry

Friday Dec 7th – Are You Listening? Festival Christmas Bash

  • The fine folk behind the Are You Listening? Festival invite three of this year’s acts (Animal House, Kill Committee and Self Help) round to our place for a night of music in aid of Reading Mencap.

8pm, £5 on the door

Saturday Dec 8th – Club Velocity Christmas Knees-Up

  • The annual Christmas knees-up from our most regaulr gig night brings young and happening The Keep Cats, Harroland and Sonic Flowers to our stage. Sid says they’re all The Best New Band in Reading.

8pm, £5 in advance

Sunday Dec 9th – Reading's Living Advent Calendar: Jeff the Giant Elf (Market Place)

  • As part of Reading’s Living Advent Calendar, Genius Ideas take Jeff the Giant Elf to Market Place. Jeff has lost his Christmas spirit and is stuck until he finds it. With the children's help, can he get back home?

4pm, Free entry

Friday Dec 14th – Big Untidy Presents: Strange Christmas

  • Big Untidy bring another taste of their unique spin on the Christmas special, this year featuring the political songsmith and modern day troubadour Grant Sharkey and much more.

7:30pm, £5 on the door

Saturday Dec 15th – Tribute Night: Christmas Special

  • Festive favourites and Christmas curveballs, all lovingly performed by a variety of acts and artistes from around Reading, and culminating in a bawdy end-of-night, get-everyone-back-on-stage finale!

8pm, No admission charge, but donations will be collected - suggested £5 minimum

Tuesday Dec 18th – Pantomime: Robin Hood

  • This year’s Finchies production is the tale of a country gripped by austerity where an elite, liberal do-gooder decides to take it to the 1%. Better than the new film. Followed by Christmas party and disco.

7:30pm, £3 on the door

Monday Dec 31st – Club Velocity New Year’s Eve bash

  • See in the new year with a knees-up of epic proportions. Living local legends Dolly and the Clothes Pegs will bring a Kennet Delta Bluegrass Country Rock n roll hootenanny to leave Jools crying in his porridge.

8pm, £9 advance
