Thanks for coming to Here Comes The Sun

Damien's picture

Saturday’s festival was a smashing success.

Here Comes The Sun has come and gone for another year. And what a cracking day it was. Hundreds of faces both old and new descended on the Rising Sun Arts Centre for a (largely) sunny day filled with music and dance, poetry and painting, burgers and bake-offs and so much more besides.

Our team of volunteers have worked long and hard to make the day a success, and I think it’s fair to say it really showed. From the LED-lit decorations in the Sun and Sky Stages to the colourful transformation of the courtyard, the decoration stakes were definitely raised this year. And thanks to a larger team of programmers, this year’s performances were more diverse and exciting than ever before.

Special mention should also be made of the three willing attendees who jumped into judging the Bake Off when our judges got stuck in traffic. And a massive thanks to everyone who provided even more entertainment than we could possibly have imagined by playing the old baby grand piano.

If you missed it, or if you just want to re-live the fun, we took loads of photos. Here you’ll find the pics I took. Here are the ones taken by our intern Ailbhe. Here’s a gallery contributed to by several of our volunteers. And here are the ones from GetReading’s photographer (who was gutted she had to leave to head off to her next assignment!)

So many people did so many great things, it’s impossible to list them all. So I’ll just say a massive thank you to all the volunteers who helped with this year’s festival, both in the run up to the day and the day itself. And a massive thank you to all the artists, musicians, poets and bakers who gave their time and their skills for the festival. And a massive thank you to everyone who attended and enjoyed the day.
