And you can have your say on Tribute Night this year, too.
This Friday, we host an extra edition of Tribute Night dedicated to the music of David Bowie. We’ve done Bowie at Tribute Night before, of course – almost a decade ago, in fact, in February 2007 – but following the Thin White Duke’s departure from this plane of existence earlier this year, demand was rightfully high for a second night to commemorate the man and his music.
Expect to hear songs from across the full scope of his career, played in a variety of styles as only Tribute Night knows how. As usual, its doors at 8pm for an 8:30pm start. No charge on the door but the donations hats will be doing the rounds during the interval.
And while we’re talking about Tribute Night, now seems as good a time as any to mention what else we have in store this year. You see, in case it got missed amongst the centre’s 25th birthday celebrations, Tribute Night reaches its own milestone, too, celebrating its 10th birthday this August.
You can bet that the August Tribute Night will be quite the birthday party, but that’s not the only birthday celebration in store this year. Following a night dedicated to the music of the centre’s birthday year in February, May’s Tribute Night is dedicated to number one songs from its performer’s birthdays.
And that’s not all – November’s Tribute Night is “People’s Choice”, where the artist or theme is chosen by popular vote. Nominations are now open for you to name up to 10 artists/themes you’d like to see as the subject of November’s Tribute Night (previous Tribute night artists don’t count, so do check the list first!). Email your list to tributenight@hotmail.co.uk by 30th April.
From everyone’s nominations, the Tribute Night team will compile a shortlist of the ten most popular nominations which will be announced at the May Tribute Night. In the event that there are not ten clear leaders, “wild cards” will be drawn on the night. Then, it’s time to vote again from that shortlist. The winner – and November’s chosen artist – will be revealed at August’s Tribute Night. Phew!
