Movie Marathon this Sunday

Damien's picture

Calling all cinema buffs! This Sunday we present our very first Stand-Up Cinethon, with eight hours of classic cinema and movie-related merriment.

The first of our fundraising events as we build towards our Reading Year of Culture 2016, the Stand-Up Cinethon promises to be a fun day out for film-lovers looking for a different cinematic experience.

Playing as part of our double double-feature are:

  • Man with a Movie Camera 1929 – Part documentary and part cinematic art, Dziga Vertov’s film follows a city in the 1920s Soviet Union from morning to night.
  • Blackmail 1929 – Hitchcock’s (and, indeed, Britain’s) first talkie
  • Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari 1920 – The classic German expressionist horror
  • The Stranger 1946 – Orson Welles‘ film noir and the first Hollywood film to present documentary footage of the Holocaust

There’ll also be film trivia quizzes in between each film (with some fun prizes), film-making workshops, popcorn, choc-ices and a fantastic atmosphere!

The first film starts rolling at 12:00pm, but you can join the fun at any time. It's just £6 for the whole day.
