Fusion - Hearing is believing

Later this month, we’ll be hosting a very special event that will be a feast for the ears.

Fusion is a “one-day Sound Salon”, showcasing an ensemble of artists who eschew traditional artistic mediums working with sound. The eventy is an immersive auditory experience tinged with chaos, and includes performances, installations and videos bringing a vibrant range of new commissions and existing work to Reading.

Harriet Butler, Shirley Penga and collective Coppers Sounds place natural and man-made objects at the forefront of their exploration for this show, repurposing the ‘everyday’ and our experience of it within a “performative environment”.

A new performance from musical mime act Starkey and the Moon Doctor analyses contemporary issues such as greed and the price of beer being too high, while the music videos of transgressive synth poppers WE (Pil & Galia Kollectiv) question cultural and societal norms by transforming “tender love songs into threatening revenge messages and military march tunes”.

This one-day Sound Salon will also feature a new performance by Linda Stupart, and new site based installations by Sinéad Bligh and Gary Charles.

Fusion has been curated by Simone Hesselberg (who has previously contributed to our Icarus contemporary art events) and supported by Reading International and the University of Reading.

Fusion takes place on Saturday 24th March from midday and will be an aural experience not to be missed.
