Tribute Night: Blur – Tribbers’ Choice

Price:
Free admission - donations during interval - suggested donation £5 each
“Well you and I collapsed in love, and it looks like we might have made it, yes it looks like we’ve made it to the end…”

Where will the Trib Train stop next? Well, that decision was left in your hands, through an unnecessarily convoluted process of nominations and votes that has devoured most of 2026 so far –  sorry about that, but thanks for your time – which saw Blur see off The Sisters Of Mercy, The Beatles post-Beatles, The Beach Boys, Duran Duran, The Beautiful South, Oasis, Pixies, The Dubliners, and Hawkwind.

Too easily pigeon-holed as Brit-pop, Blur were at their core an art-pop band, fusing together disparate strands of music styles including psychedelia, lo-fi indie, disco, gospel, grunge, punk, Madchester baggy, and even a bit of music hall, into cleverly hook-laden pop nuggets, perpetually innovating and rarely repeating the same formula.

There is a wealth of material for you to enjoy delving into, from the big hits to the deep cuts, revealing a pleasing diversity across their nine albums from 1991 to 2023.

Who’s up for it? Pick any song by the band. If you want to be involved and play a song or two, send an email to tributenight@hotmail.co.uk. You can bagsy a slot first if you haven’t decided on a song.

If you are a musician and you want to be involved, but you don’t know other people to play or sing with, let me know and we’ll have a go at matching you up with others, like some sort of groovy pop dating agency.

If you have an audio/video recording of yourself performing any song relevant to this or a previous Tribute Night that you’d like to share, please send me a link to post on the Tribute Night Facebook page.

While you’re here, please make a note in your diary of these Tribute Night dates in 2027:
