A Gathering of Altered Books

An exhibition of beautiful and thought provoking altered books by the late Mary Riley.

 

Mary was an artist, psychiatric nurse and art therapist. She worked on her altered books in her studios at home in her front room and at Open Space (Oxford Road). On the pages she made drawings and used photographs, printmaking, papercutting, painting, collage, threads and found objects, creating beautiful pages of inspiring thoughts and stories. Mary exhibited her books, installations, and artworks at many exhibitions in Reading and collaborated with local artists. Mary loved people and was a great supporter of our local art groups and events in Reading.
