Free SciArt workshop: exploring perceptions of ageing with bookcrafts

Price:
Free or donation

How do we perceive ageing, both in ourselves and other organisms like trees?

Join us to explore ideas with concertina books, collage and drawing.

How do humans perceive the way we age? Do we think of our own ageing process differently compared to ageing in other living things, e.g. trees?

Join artist-scientist Immy Smith and biostatistician Maria Christodoulou for a free drop-in afternoon making mini-books about our attitudes to ageing. All art materials are provided including book-crafting, collaging and drawing supplies, and no previous art or science experience is needed to attend! If anyone gets overwhelmed by deep thoughts, we also provide a set of oak tree-themed colouring sheets to relax with.

Maria is a biostatistician passionate about science communication, who has studied the science of human ageing. Now she's going to help us to explore how we think about ageing over time with the help of sciart! Immy is an artist and former bioscientist who has all the pencils and collage materials, and isn't afraid to unleash them at the Rising Sun Arts Centre. Join us for a drop-in afternoon to doodle, craft, colour, and concertina-book our way to some new thoughts about time and how we age.

The workshop runs for 2 hours from 1-3 PM, and participants can stay as long or short a time as they want. Asking science and/or art questions along the way is welcome!

The event is free but spaces are limited so please make sure to register here on EventBrite.
