Held on the first Sunday of each month at 7.30pm, Dreading Slam is a friendly, open mic poetry competition hosted by The Legend that is Richard Stephenson. Poets compete against each other to be considered the best poet in Berkshire, (for a few weeks), by connecting with the audience and impressing the randomly selected judges with their work. The winner gets the opportunity to compete in the Grand Slam in January to be crowned the Dreading Slam Champion for a year. If you wish to take part in the Poetry Slam please bring 3 poems of your own work (up to a maximum of 3 minutes in length) and make yourself known to the organisers. Dreading Slam welcomes poets of all standards along with those who wish to join the audience for an evening of live poetry.
In addition to the main event, we have a lively Quick Fire Competition. Judged by the loudest audience cheer this is a fast moving, entertaining part of the show that is open to all. If you want to give it a go just bring along some short poems (5 lines max) on the theme for that month which is announced both at the previous Slam and on our Social Media Accounts.
If time allows there will be the chance to read, non competitively, any poem (yours or any favourite up to 3 minutes in length).
