Would you like to be part of a creative project to tell the story of Reading during the Covid-19 period of social isolation and lockdown?

The Rising Sun Arts Centre is creating an online quilt. You do not need any special skills or to think of yourself as especially creative. Everyone has something to share. The quilt will be made up of panels and patches. When clicked on, each panel will reveal a story or statement.

Your patch can be as simple as a single word which sums up how you feel right now. It might be a story you would like to tell, it might be an image or video which means something to you, a photograph, a memory, a poem, an act of kindness. It may be your hopes, worries, or something which made you stop and think, it could be a song, a poem, a text, or a tweet. It may be something you learned or something which changed how you saw things in lockdown.

We want to create a chronicle of our time which will speak powerfully to future generations. This means it must be your story told by you.

The final quilt will appear on the Reading Culture Live website. The quilt will eventually form a real life tapestry. So, we welcome fabric patches and technical help from sewers, knitters, weavers, textile artists.

If you would like to be part of the project but are not sure what to do next, contact us and we will help you turn your story into a patch for the quilt. Contact Larry at quilt@risingsun-artscentre.co.uk or phone 07765 599 433.
