Hi Everyone

Some of you might be aware that we were nominated at the Arts and Culture RDG Cultural Awards last week.  Not only did we have a wonderful time, but we're also extremely proud that Zap! Magazine took home partnership of the year, alongside our partners at Real Time, Our Time Video, Spectrum Arts, The Step Up Project and our very own Neile Wright!

And we're also extremely humbled and overjoyed at being the surprise recipients of this year's Outstanding Contribution Award, something we dedicate to everyone who's ever volunteered, contributed to, taught, performed at or attended here at the centre - thank you all!

In other news, there's a couple of events to tell you about this week, on Saturday we bring you OUT OF BOUNDS

The Rising Sun Arts is pleased to present the second art Salon as part of a series of Reading International fringe events. Hosting an ensemble of staff and students from the Reading School of Art, including Taniya Dharani, Rachel Garfield, Tina Jenkins, Jay Karadia, Wendy McLean, Katy Pike, Bea Ridge and Holly Sandford, curated by Simone Hesselberg.

Out of Bounds challenges the hierarchy of the art world by inviting staff and students to display work alongside one another.

The Salon positions the artists as co-practitioners, acting as a research unit to develop evolving multidisciplinary practices, thereby breaking down the walls of the art school.

Intertwining thematically, the work in the show explores the body and form, narrative and the physicality of mark making through a vibrant range of performance, video, sculpture and painting.  Out of Bounds aims to bridge the gap between ‘town and gown' by remaining open and welcoming to the community at large, with contemporary art made accessible to all.

The venue will recreate the spirit of the Salon that brings people together socially to enjoy art and culture while exploring the way in which we encounter and consume art in a contemporary society.

Supported by Reading International and the University of Reading Arts Committee.

Tea, coffee and cakes will be served at the bar.

We're open from 2pm to 9pm and it's absolutely FREE!

On Sunday we have another DIVERSITY SOCIAL

A brand new social club for adults with mobility issues. The Diversity Social is run by Steph, who has been a Rising Sun volunteer for many years, and Luisa from local arts group the Messy Club! The club is run by Luisa from the Messy Club and her friend Steph, who is a wheelchair user with limited mobility due to cerebral palsy.

This time Steph wanted to have an Italian style summer party. So, that’s what we’re going to do.  Please join us  for pizza, rum punch and good times!
The Diversity Social is a new, accessible social club for adults with mobility issues. The Social will be held monthly and there will be music, snacks and a bar.

We're open from 7pm to 9pm and it's absolutely FREE!

That’s everything for another week, just to remind you that we are, as always, at 30 Silver Street, Reading, RG1 2ST (If you pop it into your satnav or Google, we shall magically appear!)

Have a nice weekend!
